I've got a chance to get a 4l80e 2wd trans from the states .
Whats involved in fitting these upto a VX ?
Does it actually fit in the tunnel ?
It'll need a rebuild too , Do you build them ? to cope with big power ?

sorry to dig up an old thread but didn't see the point in creating a new one. i'm also interested in the above question. also sorry if this has been answered before but i'm curious to know what sort of power a fully built 65e will take. i have had one built and i'm a little concerned it may not take the hp tq of the new engine. car won't really see track time, just a street driven car. thanks guys.

I can't answer about the 4l65e , But I fitted the 4L80e into my VX and It works good .
The swap was pretty simple . and so smooth for the street !!
Drive it every day ..
So far putting out 500 rwks through a dominator 3000 stall and the box is great . Expecting around 530+ rwks and soon as we fix the spark blowout we are having with higher boost levels in the upper rev range.
Craigs built a great box , That will last .:goodjob::goodjob::goodjob:

How did you go with the tcm.. What other things did you have to modify..

I did wirring changes , Pretty simple , extession loom for the auto .
The stock VT-VY pcm controls it with a 4l60e program .
The box fits in the tunnel perfect but you will have to cut out a little around the wirring plug ,
HAd to make up a Crossmember and modify the tailsfaft to suit .
The length of the shaft didn't change .
The box I used is a 96 from a Chevy Tahoe or Savanna Cann't remmber exactly .

semi thread dig.
but i too am considering a 4l80e conversion.
checked out one site in the states that has a 4l80e "stage II" for $2500usd.
they are ALOT stronger than the 4l60 right?
kinda like... a ecotec will make as much power as a five-ohh, but we all know that the five-ohh is a better place to start.
right?
im just abit of a noob at this stage.
Just after what info i can find.
In talks with Russo Performance to install it, and we (Christian and myself) are doing abit of research to figure out whats what and if its worth it.
**prob want to go reverse pattern full manaul with a B&M shifter hahah lols... maybe not.
**heres the site i found

just did a search on 4l80 boxes and only just noticed that this thread is in the craigs automatics lol... my bad.
there is discussion about the 4l80e.
i figure why not ask in here instead of starting a new thread.. and then getting yelled at for not using the search button.
should i just start a new thread so people dont have a winge?
**and pretty sure no one from craigs has replied to this thread even tho it started in 2009.

Your better off getting the box from Craigs anyway .
That Jakes Performance box is good, I've heard good things about him , But at $2500 US + 500 Core charge + around $500 shipping , The box weighs heaps ,
Thats $3500 for a box with no warranty ,
for peace of mind I got Craig to built my 4L80e .

Also forgot you'll also be paying 10% TAx ontop of the 3500 to import , then you have all the other import fees etc .
If you are in melb I'd invite you over for a spin in mine , 530 rwks in a 4L80e and the box hasn't even come close to its limit .

Hey guys im in the middle of doing the 4l80e conversion to my vyss ute.
Hey big123 im just wondering if the wire extension is just a streightforard extension of the wires or are the wires configured different?
Also did you just use a stock 4l60e setup in your pcm?
Mate also where did you get your crossmember made?
I sent you pretty much the same message to your inbox but im not sure if it got through as im only new on here and u have to have 20 posts to be able to message people. I better get typing then haha.

My number is 0414949948, if you want to send me a text i can ring you to save the $
