View Full Version : Ways to move a parked car?

Hey guys,
I'm after some ways to move a parked car that is on my property.
Here's the situation:
Get home to find a BA XR6 parked in my car space:flipoff:
I live in apartments and each one has their own space in a security garage. I have the biggest car space of them all and it's on the end so that's probably why they chose mine. So I park them in and leave a note saying that they are in my space and if they want to get out they have to come and ask.
Couple of hours later I have to leave to go watch footy grand final at mates, they still haven't been to their car so i leave another note, if your car is not moved by the time I get back I'll take actions to have it removed.
So I get back about 8:30pm, car is still there. I am wanting to move it somewhere so I can park in my space. I can't get the tilt tray in cause the garage is too low. Was thinking of getting the old mans trolley jack and lifting the rear up so I could possibly roll it out. Find out the jack is stuffed with no oil.
So any ideas? How do u move a car that you don't have access to?
Also what are my rights? Someone leaves their car on my property do I have the right to remove it or even claim it? I'm fairly sure I'm allowed to get it towed.

You have to be sneaky mate....
Remove the notes and then let down the tires...they will get the hint....

break the window and take the handbrake off.
by the way this advice may get you arrested and/or bashed by a ford driver.

Flog his 2 back wheel's and leave a note specifying safe return on receipt of parking fee's incurred..(whatever the going rate is for secure parking in your area ;) )

Yeah tempting LooneyR8, I was considering removing one of the nice 19" rims and telling them they can come and buy it back off me lol.
But I can't do that, I have respect for cars and that would probably lead to revenge attack and my ute may end up getting keyed or something. Don't know the type of person who owns the car, could be a chick or could be a big mean bastard haha.
Those go jacks are what I need haha
Yeah, I should get some coin out of it. I own the property so should charge them car space rental

Exactly. Or if it means that much to you do a door
knock and find out who owns it. I am sure they will
move it once they realise they are in the wrong spot.

What about body corperate rules. They must have something in there. The units the company I work manage have very strict rules as to parking in other people spaces. Simply put no execptions. Everything is on security camera and the exact apartment button pressed is recorded including the faces, times etc so they know who they are and where they are going.
As to moving they get a warning phone call to the apartment by the body Complex manager or the body corp committie to move the car, wait 25 min and then they call in a professional to remove the car and it gets locked away. It is easy to with the technology and it is a very high end place. All tenants agree to this though so it does not happen. To date in 3 years none have had to been removed that i am aware off.
Contact the body corporate. Follow the legal path ;)

I know it's not the end of the world, I can handle it for tonight.
I'm just pissed that people don't respect the car park allocations and it has stuffed me around. Plus the fact I forked out 100's of thousands of dollars to buy this place, and some dick comes up for a holiday and thinks he/she has the right to do what they want.
Just want to even the score, they put me out so I'll put them out.

Feel for ya, just park them in and inconvenience them when they want to leave.

If your note doesnt work I would leave it up to body corp. it is only a car spot and although its a pain in the arse is it really worth the trouble it could bring. If you damage this car trying to move it you will get stuck with a bill and although he's in your park i believe it would be illegal for you to move it.

Is it really your property?
Why not call 000 and report this obvious emergency on a long weekend.
I can't believe this is even a thread.
Its a one off incident of a visitor parking in a car park, where they obviously don't know the unwritten rules.
Suddenly our members are endorsing smashing someones property, claiming it as their own, burning someones car, having someone elses property towed etc.
How about you all take a chill pill.
The bitching and moaning that goes on in this place when someone gets scraped in a car park without a note being left, then our members go on with this shit?

Yeah the body corperate states park in allocated space only, 1 vehicle per unit. We don't have camera's or a special button on the lift for each unit so I can't find out who it is. Lifts have to be accessed by keys and garage is remote. I'm not going to go door knockking and disturb all the other guests who do the right thing at this time.
I'm just going to inconvenience them for now.
Just felt like having a rant haha, and was interested in others experiences.

Sorry to quote your whole post Seedy but although I don't endorse any damage to anyone elses property, this is an issue in apartment buildings and should be dealt with, not sucked up or glossed over. The biggest issue in my appartment is people letting their mates/family in, not people who don't know the rules.
I've contacted a private tow company before and been prepared to pass those details to the body corporate before to get a car towed when they said it couldn't be done. In the end it didn't come to that but it can be done.
To the OP, Try the body corp/security service and if they claim they can't help, do some research and pass on the details of the tow company to the management of the building.

Couple of years ago I drove a 308 HQ wagon,I get home one day from work and someone visiting a neighbour had parked in my spot,so I knock on the door and ask him "can you move the car please" he says "yeah,in a minute"(with an attitude)
So I go to my car and wait, after 10 minutes I got pissed off and reversed the wagon up to his pos car and proceed to drag a big chain out of the wagon and wrap it around my towbar and was reaching under his car to tie the other end around his diff.
He must have seen me through the window and runs out "ok ok I'll move my car"
Fcuker! :flipoff: If you don't live there don't park there.

hahaha classic.
I have some cousins who live in apartments in the city and they talk about people parking in their spaces etc so it seems its a problem to be dealt with not just left alone.
I hope you work it out mate, i know it would piss me off after forking out mass money for a place.

I see the humerous side of some of the replies, seedy it's not an emergency just an inconvenience, and the law is written, huge and only sign in the lift stating to park in allocated space only, you can't miss it. As I said before I have respect for other cars and have not done anything.
I simply asked a few questions and had a bit of a rant. I've been given ideas on how to move it if it comes to that, and also heard others that have had the same thing happen in their building. So it's not pointless

Paper sign stuck to his windscreen and driver's side window with glue should get the message through without doing any damage.
Speak to the body corporate about putting warning signs up about it incorrectly parked cars being towed away - should do the trick.

Yeah the only way to do it properly is do a door knock and find out whos car it is, and get them to move it, and if they have problem expain the fact that you paid to have your car their,
I had a similar problem with the guys at the front unit blocking us in and leaving little room to get past, so I went and had a word with them and made up some bull shit that if I have an emergency to attend to I would have no problems in diving straight through their car,
now their is no problem at all

Just park them in for the night ... your car is safe in the locked garage - when they need to leave make sure your asleep and cant be woken .

And get a bollard installed so it can't happen again.
I'm making the actual car space into a lock up garage (building wall and putting roller door on so it is enclosed) in a month or two so it won't happen after that is done. This is the first holidays since I moved in and I had no issues before this long weekend.

As for your rights you are near powerless unfortunately , yeah you can contact the body corp but its all crap , even towing it is a grey area ..... i have worked and lived at various times for 15 years in inner city Sydney with my spot being used consistently -let me say these inconsiderate bastards dont park there accidentally or because they didn't know either.... they know full well but just dont care they just hope noone uses it or your away or whatever , they dont give a sh!t it's all about them and their needs.

Just box them in and leave them a note saying what time you will be back at your car to let them out and if theyre not there to meet you, you will get it towed away.
OR, considering youre from the THUG state, bash them with a metal pole.

If you can get several mates arounnd you can bounce the thing like a basketball and in doing so, move it. I recall having to move a car several years ago for a wee job and I was amazed that we could bounce it up a steep driveway even.

Hi
You think you've got problems. Try living in a unit complex with 110 units, and only 90 car spots allocated to 90 units, yep 20 have missed out!
Now everyone wants to use my spot as out of all the 90 car spaces it is the closest to the stair case out of the total car park! Basically everytime I come home someone is parked in my spot.
I try and do the nice thing and page every unit through the security door system (takes about 20 minutes!) and everyone denies knowledge of the car.
So instead of leaving my car outside the complex on a main road I then park my car behind the offenders car and put a note saying sorry I tried to contact you but had to leave my car behind yours, due back in 5 days! I then also inform the body corporate.
regards,
Richard

I'm with this guy , I would give him till the morn, and if its still there before I go to work I will be getting a chain and dragging the ****ing thing out. Even if they come running out they can watch and get back in it on the road. Every chance it will be gone by then anyway, but... if it comes back even after the notes were left, Chain!!!

Just get some old heavy object - a fridge or whatever, somthing that cant be traced to you like your car and leave it behind his car, or even chain it to his car. It''ll take longer to get your spot back but it will sure be annoying.
Same with one of those council wheel locks. Point is- annoying to the guy, no property damage and not traceable to you.

Car is gone now. Was a middle aged couple and another guy. They had to come and knock on my door as I had parked them in. I think they were a bit scared as all three of them came to my door haha. They apologised a number of times and he got his car out after I moved out of the way and parked it in the street. They won't be doing it again.

if you can pit walls up, then surely you're able to fit one of those retractable bollards or even a removable one
Put one of them in and she'll be sweet.
Just hope there's not a malfunction with the retractable one while your cars there

didnt read though all that.. ^^
buuut. i read some of it.
i do beleiver in nsw that it is illegal to move/tow/clamp a car parked illegally..
unless that car has been there for so many days or something. depending where (ie a clearway)
a notice sticker, and along with many fines a presume are left on the car.
..neways. personally, i would just park them in. leave a note saying sorry pal your in my spot. then just come out and move your car when you need to.
someone decieded to park half over my driveway so i got one of my cars parked in the driveway, and my other car parked on the other side of the car..
completly parking it in.
lady came up. she was not happy. im like oh sorry i couldnt get my car all the way in my driveway. shes like CAN YOU MOVE IT. naah sorry im pretty busy right about now. she was stuck there for 6 hours.
god im an arrrssssehole.
i use to live in a block of 6 flat that had a small underground garage. it was a right prick to get in and out of if you had to park on the end parks(1m wide conceare post between parks). mine was in the middle and was the easiest to get in and out of and one of the other tennents knew that and would always take my spot.
first i bought some paint and remarked the parking spots.......didnt work
then tried to find out who owned it and ask them not to...... couldnt find the person but other tennet told me which flat belonged to it
left note for him........ failed
finally sick of this so after arvo shift got home at 3.45am parked my car and then set of its alarm as the garage was under only his flat, within 1 minute he came running down to check his car and proceeded to go off at me waking him up with this crap so i told him it will happen every time his car is in my park. he was a smart arse and parked there the next 2 nights and was woken both times. never had a problem after that but i did notice a big scrape up the side of his car and paint on one of the posts. he then started to park in someone elses parking spot......cockhead
