View Full Version : Softest spring rate for comfort?

I am considering lowering my daily - VZ calais V6, but do not want to compromise too much of the ride quality.
My VY calais is lowered using pedders springs and shocks, and is quite firm...
What is the softest spring that will allow me to lower it 2 inches?
Cheers

My VZ SS was lowered using King SSL and KYB short body shocks and the ride over bumps such as the gutter across the exit road from where I used to work onto the Princes Hwy was less harsh with that setup than the stock FE2! The back came down about 2" (almost level with tyre), the front a bit less. I should be able to find a pic if you want.
Unfortunately KYB don't (or didn't 3 years ago at least) make short shocks for VZ so we had to use VY sway bar link pins to make them fit suitably. Originally had some other brand shocks in the front (can't remember brand now but turns out they were Chinese crap!) and both front shocks soon had welds, hence using KYB with modifications to suit.

Hi Wonky,
A picture would be great.
Does the ride have more to do with the spring or the shock?

springs, but shortned shocks will help a bit too over stock ones

I'm no expert but in my opinion comfort depends on both. However, given the shorter spring I suspect a lot of the difference is in the shocker.

The ride in my VZ was a lot harsher as stock with FE2 and 17 inch wheels than what the Vy was......
i have now put on 19s on the VZ, and the ride is the same, so maybe i will get away with Superlows (50mm drop from memory) and it not be too much harsher as it is already firm

I found Eibach Springs are near stock feel and I have some Koni Fsd shocks.
Not really hard sport shocks but much better than stock.
But it costs more than the normal springs/shocks.

Trying to do it as cheap as possible, performance is not a priority (as in going around corners quick) but looks and comfort are.....

KPM Exhaust=
Very true! :yup:  Given my disabilities mean I can't go around corners fast, looks and comfort are my priorities for springs/shocks too! Leaves me more money to spend on stuff like great sounding and performing exhausts!! :D
