View Full Version : Race with a M3
Last night filled up my VT2Calais 5.7 A4 with premuim.Got out the gas station,I came up to a set of lights and a 93 M3 manual rocked up next to me.Lights went green and we off we went hard.It was neck and neck.At 160kph the M3 had some balls,it began to lead the way.Came up to another set of lights, the same deal again. Impressed.

Im sure the dude in the kraut sports car wouldnt
have been too happy with a Holden Limousine
staying next to him until 100mph, no matter what
motor it has in it

They didnt make e36 M3's in 1993, So I can only guess it was a 1995 M3 3.0lt. These vehicles are all manuals with almost 200KW at the fly wheel. Like the R32 Skyline these early spec cars are somewhat loghter than the later (1996-1999) 3.2lt vehciles and were favoured for racing. These cars are good value now at $30-40,000. Well done lets hope you get another run !!!

I raced a 96' M3 around Oran Park in my VS Clubbie. Both drivers were fairly new to track work and both cars were stock. He beat me, but only by about one and a half car lengths.
That was over 3 laps...
I knew the guy who owned the M3 and he was pretty pleased with his effort...and he should be, after all he beat me.
But I put it into perspective when I said that my car cost less than half as much as his, and he didn't beat me by half a lap, so which one was the better performance buy?

Dave, nice "to hear your voice again"!!
Your right about the cost /benefit aspect of the two cars, but I would also add that the Clubbie can carry more people in comfort and can also tow a good sized boat - so it is more versatile than the M3.
But for performance the M3 is a mighty vehicle with good resale and excellent build quality.:flip3:
My boss at work drives a 2002 M3 (M6)
There is no doubt the M3 goes hard - real hard - based on my drives in the bosses car.
Anyway - I've convinced him to come out to Eastern Creek soon with the M3 so we can have a real race down the drag strip. Will probably get another mate at work to bring his Audi S3 - although both he and I know that my LS1 already creamed the S3 when stock, so he might hate to see the margin now! Anyway I'll let you guys know when it is on through the forum for anyone who's interested!
When the flag drops the bullshit stops!
