Hi,

I have a VZ SS, 6 speed manual, 5.7 litre. I was wondering what would be the best cat back system under $600. I dont want one that will drone. I have been told Lukey 3 inch super system is good, but other people have said redback, x-force, supercat etc. Would a single 3 inch sound good, or would i be better to go to dual 2 1/2's. Should I buy one off ebay or a site such as bestmuffler.com.

Thanks

Wade

If the car is going to remain unopened you would be mad not to
go for a Sureflo 3.5 single. They start at twin 2.5 after the
cats and then merge into a single 3.5 pipe. They even come
in different volumes. I had the Medium and loved it, only
changing to twin 3 inch when putting the cam in.
Have a read of this thread :)

I ran a single 3'' on my old cammed LS1 with H@M Headers and it sounded really ballsy and quite tough not overly loud but loud enough. Since ive been running twin system i find it hard getting the right sound, i recommend a single 3'' system otherwise save some money and buy a diffilipo 3'' best sound ive heard on a LS1, personal choice of course each sound to there own

I have a sureflo 3.5 med/loud and sounds really good. Not far off your price.

Cat back only I reckon go for a redback. My car had one on it when I bought it from the dealer, and the sound was half the reason I bought it. No drone, not too loud, nice deep sound. They're really cheap too. They aren't the least restrictive thing on the market, but bolt on or cam only and it won't really matter.

I found the X-Force Dual 2.5's pretty droany.. Not way loud but the Sureflo's are quieter.. X-Force's have more of a crackle to them when they are coming down in revs..

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your thoughts. I might just go with the 3 inch Lukey Super System as they are available in the town where I live, at the local Carline. They only charge about $30 to fit them. There are only 2 exhaust shops in town, and we are about 3 hours to Brissy. What are anyone's thoughts on these Lukey systems?

Thanks

Wade

Hi,

Just got an email back from sureflo. They can do the 3.5inch mild steel single for $680 + $120 for dual 3 inch tip + $60 for freight?

Make sure one of your two exhaust shops up there is happy to weld on the tips and install it for you. My experience found exhaust shops can get a little shirty that you didn't buy one of their systems.

I'm wanting to get a cat-back exhaust installed to my new VE SS-V.

I read somewhere that with a cat-back exhaust there is no need for a re-tune, is that correct?

You can get away without a tune even with a full exhaust but probably won't make full benefit of the change. With a full exhaust which changes the location of the cats you may need to have a particular error code which may subsequently result turned off, but still don't need a tune.

Thanks mate.

While I realise that only installing a cat-back will not gain me any significant power, can you confirm that it won't lose me power either?

Sorry about cutting in here. But whats everyones thoughts on the Manta twin 2.5" cat back systems?

Was thinking about one for my VY SS Ute. How good are they for sound, and do they drone?

Anyone? I have done a bit of a search about Manta, but most of the info I get is about VE's

I was either going to get the Manta system, or go to the local exhaust place. But I want a bolt on system so I can fit it myself. And I want an Aussie made system, not a chinese X - force.

Manta make systems for a wide range of vehicles. I just installed a 2.5 stainless system on my VE and am very pleased with the sound so far (only driven a couple of times since getting it back).

I would imagine that the systems for non VE vehicles would be up to the high build standard I've witnessed.

I have read of some systems resulting in slight loss of power eg. up to 5rwkw or so, but even if it did you'd not notice it and it would be more than counterbalanced by the decent note! Would be regained plus more if/when you eventually get a tune.

Best thing is to get before/after dyno runs done at the same place so you know.

No worries, thanks for the reply Wonky. I will be eventually getting a tune, just wanting a cat-back & lowered springs to start with. Appreciate your help :)
