Are the pics working for anyone else? They still arnt for me ???
Also a quick update. SSZ went 12.5 @ 109mph, 1.8 60ft, on Wednesday night at Willowbank. Im pretty happy with that, considering it was on shit bald semi slck track tyres and with 3.07 gearing :)

Yep, punch diff gears into the search field and get ready for plenty of reading. :)

Thought i might give this a bit of an update. Not to much has happened since my last post though.
Ive had the power steering lines replaced under warrenty, for the 2nd time in less then 10 months. The 4-1 Pacies are sitting very close (less then 5mm) away fromt he lines (where they connect to the rack) and rubbing on it. So i need to sort that out as soon as i can.
Ive got a big Derale trans cooler sitting here waiting to go on. I will be getting a PWR power steering resevouir, and a P/S cooler aswell, and fitting them all up at the same time.
Also just bought a Whiteline chrome sturt brace. That will probably go on at the same time as the oil coolers go on.
Picked up a set of M/T Street ET's aswell. Just havnt had a chance to use the bloody things yet. Diff gears are going in soon. I decided to go with 3.9:1 gearing. Hopefully i can crack an 11 with the gearing, slicks and winter.
I am also picking up a new car on Saturday. A VX Berlina wagon, LS1 of course. So that will be getting a Ziggy OTR and MAFless tune soon. Already has PAcies and exhaust, so thts a bonus.
Oh, and im about to buy a HG Kingswood aswell. Dropping a 350/383ci chev combo in and going drag racing :)
Here is a few new pics of the SSZ.

The white walled tyres, or the mags?
I bought them off a mate, like they are. They are Kumho tyres, and he had the whitewalls done himself. Cant remember who he got them done thru. Apparently they are about $50 a tyre. I have never seen those rims at a shop, and to be honest, i dont even know what they are lol. I think they are a Koya. Ive only ever seen them on one other car. A ED Falcon, at my work.

This is the new car i picked up on Saturday morning. Saturday arvo saw a MAFless tune and Ziggy OTR being fitted up. Also came with Pacemaker Tri-y's and cat back exhaust, lowered suspension and 17" VY SS rims. Also had SS Inductions MAF sensor and CAI, which is for sale now.

No longer doing heads on it. I have a HG Kingswood that i am building up for street/strip duties. I was going to get more involved with the SSZ, but if i break it, im up shit creek as it is my daily. So yea, i bought another car to play with.
Yea Mark, its come along way since i bought it. It was 100% bog stock 18 months ago. Next is a 'Craigs' gearbox, as mine is starting to play up (lasted 10 months with the cam and convertor, not bad for a stock 4L60e lol). Maybe a bigger convertor aswell (4000-4200rpm). Eventually i will be fitting up a set of 1 7/8" Di-Fillipo headers, and that will probably be it. Unless i can get a FAST 92/92 for the right price lol.
The wagon is pretty good. I took it for a run to Warwick a few weeks ago to pick up a diff for the HG. It handled great thru 'Cunninghams Gap'. Made it from Marsden to Warwick in record time ;).

Have you thought of calling SureShift Automatics here in Brisbane regarding your auto? He does quality work with runs on the board as well. Not knocking Craigs at all it was just a suggestion?

Yea i thought about Sureshift, but decided to go straight to Craigs. If i was going to go local, it would be Sureshift, for sure. It goes pretty good now with the 3500rpm Dominator. Not 100% sure if i will go bigger or not yet. Ill have to see how im going for funds when i get it done.
Very sweet ride, I like the color too. I really like those wheels

Went out again last night. Only got 2 runs in, due to all the pro-racers out practicing for Wintrnats (3.5 hour blody wait for the first run :(). Changed shockies for a pair my mate had laying around that he changed a while back. They made the ass end alot more stiff. Also pumped the ET Streets up to 16psi. Had a great launch, withno axle tramp. And felt alot better up top aswell.
First run...
12.33 @ 111mph, 1.71 60ft.
Second run...
12.29 @ 111mph, 1.70 60ft
I think its time for some more timing, and chase a flat 12 :)

You int he blue SSZ ute??? Looked good mate. Not only do i have a liking for Impulse SSZ's, i also have a big soft spot for the utes :)
Yea it would be great if it goes 11's. Flat 12's is what im aiming for though. But i suppose, if it goes flat 12's, then 11's is there for the taking aswell. Will see what happens though.
Im going to play with tyre pressures abit more, and still want to try standard springs again. Its all a matter of trial and error now. Bring on the Pheonix Lights drag day for some testing :)

Yeah same here, just up at Heritage Park. Will do mate :) But as for my Ute, as it is now it just has a cat back, mafless tune and OTR. Right now I am sorting out the rest of the exhaust system and keen to chuck in some 3.9 diff gears. Towards the end of the year I want to cam it and a stally, about the same size as yours. How is it to drive with the stally? I drive mine daily to work (only a 28km round trip).
OMR346
08-06-2010, 01:07 PM
I drive mine every where. It is my only car (on the road) at the moment. Ive had the cam and stall in there for nearly a year now, and done about 18,000 with it in that time. It gets around 15Ltr/100km, roughly, with most of that being city driving. Driving with the 3500rpm stall in great. Its a Dominator,, so its nice and tight, and great to drive. IU just in my misses car (VX Berlina LS1 wagon) and it feels so doughy, even though it has exhaust, OTR and MAFless tune.
I wouldnt have it any other way. But to be honest, if i were to do it again, i would go a bigger cam and bigger stall. I will need to rebuild my box eventually, so at the same time, im going to go up to a 4000-4200rpm convertor instead of the 3500rpm.
Give us a yell when you want to do the cam and stuff. Ill get you some good prices on some gear (i sell Comp Cams, and all the rest of the gear to go with it).
sszkid
08-06-2010, 01:31 PM
Cheers for that info, good to know. I am pretty sure 3500 stall will be the size for me but since I am unsure of the size cam I want to run I will wait and see to make a final decision on the stall size. But from the sounds of it I am in for a treat, cant wait :)
Will do mate, appreciate the offer. I have changed my mind on what size cam I am after a few times but will work something out soon. So you can obviously get me the valve springs and what not as well? Who did you go through for installing the cam and tune out of interest? Sorry if it’s already in the thread, I am too busy at work to look back through it all :( lol

08-06-2010, 01:56 PM
Yea mate i can get you everything you need. Shit, i can get you a whole motor if you want one ;) lol
The cam and everything else was done down at B.E.S.T Performance @ Sumner Park, and Sean (nqcv8) tuned it on the dyno at B.E.S.T.
Mal @ Mr Muffler (also same building at B.E.S.T) done the headers and cats for me.

Im running 235/60/15" M/T ET Streets. I cant run front runnmers, as the SSZ's have 320mm front brakes, and need 17"s to clear. If i could fit 15"s over the front, id have some front runners on for sure.

12.23 @ 111mph, 1.69 60ft
12.23 @ 112mph, 1.69 60ft
Getting very consistant with the time now. Just need to get the reaction times down pat.

Havnt updated this for a while. Ive been out to Willowbank once since my last post, and it was running 12.3's @ 111mph. The gearbox was really starting to slip that night, and let it down. It was a great night for racing to. Still havnt got it built yet though, and it hasnt blown yet.
Next ont he list of mods, besides the gearbox and 4500rpm convertor, is a few more blingy bits for the engine bay, and a Senator rear spolier. Also had a few thoughs about getting cowl scoop for it. I have seen a few VY/Z's with them, and i think they look shit hot.
A few pics i took tonight.

A bigger stally will get you into the 11's no probs. Why not a tad bigger than a 4500rpm? :)
Reverse cowl would look great - EV1LR8's looks angry and suits the shape real well. I was thinking about one for my old car.

I am looking forward to Winter this year. Mainly becuase its to ****ign hot at the moment. I hate summer. Not only becuase its to hot to race, but becuase i hate the heat full stop lol. But yes, i do want to get back out and get some more racing in. But i need to get the box done first. I dont trust it at the moment.

I would. Im talking about since the cam and stall have been in. And since then, yours hasnt done anything interesting. Befpre then, yours has seen a track once, which was C4C7, and that was hardly racing. Its been to Willowbank once and done 4 runs. I dont class street racing as drag racing. And i dont class shity little half arsed power skids that peg leg as doing burnouts either :p
So yes, i would say that lol

My stally was an 8 1/2" Converter Shop 4500rpm non lock up. I loved it. Lots have run the Converter Shop brand and have run quick 60fts. 1.68 60ft from 229rwks in mine with no set-up. Just a thought though.

Nah im not a fan of Convertor Shop convertors for street use. Every one ive seen has been pretty loose, and not the best for street driving, compared to a Dominator, for example. Ill either be getting another Dominator, or one from the US (Vigilante). Ive run a couple of 1.69 60ft's with the 3500rpm Dominator and 3.73:1 gearing. So with a 4500rpm Dominator and 4.11:1 gearing (also on the to to list), it whould in theory go 1.5 60ft, hopefully lol

So this mate of yours does he do a radiator cap or cap cover for the VZ? Now I have my new OTR it looks a bit odd that my radiator cap doesn't have a billett cap given I have them everywhere else.
OMR346

Nah we dont do the radiator caps for VZ, as they are under the cover. We took measurments for it, but decided it was cheaper (to make, and to sell the kit for less) to to do it with out them. To be honest, im not sure if he made any more VZ sets after the couple i got made up. I have one on my SSZ, and SammyK has the other set on his SSZ lol.
Lincoln. I have read your thread already and the Calais is pretty impressive. 11's with a bolt on only 6Ltr is pretty good. It will be interesting to see how it goes with the cam in there. To be honest, ill be happy with anything in the 11's once i get it all sorted. Its just a matter of having the coin to do the gearbox. Ive been off work since Xmas with some torn ligaments in my ankle, so ive been living off all my savings, which was for my gearbox. Kinda sucks pretty dam hardcore lol

Been a while since ive updated this.
Not much has happened yet, except for a new grille. Just got my old standard grille colour coded. Fitted it up this arvo.
Got a few more plans to happen in the future. Going to fit a VZ Senator rear spolier, HSV rear number plate surround, VZ HSV guards vents, VZ Calais chrome bonnet strip. Going to lower it aswell (SSL in rear and SL in front, also have SSSL rear if i want to go lower any time). And a smaller quieter exhaust will be going on it aswell. Im looking in to a twin 2.5" Burkley system for it. And of course, i still need to get the gearbox sorted lol. Not going to put a bigger convertor in it anymore though. Im also going to see if i can find a set of 20"s for it. Something like a set of Supersports, or even something with a billet sort of look.
All this will happen over time. Not in a hurry for it. When i see parts at the right price, ill pick them up. I wanna concentrate on the HG first, and then another project that im looking at aswell once i start at my new job.
Here is a pic of the grille.

Do it, Paul. SammyK and Steedsy both have the Senator lips on there's and they look great. I was wondering how long your box would take to go. Dont look past a full rebuild with all the good bits, otherwise with yoru mods, you will blow it again in no time. Do it once and do it right. Im just so surprised mine has lasted as long as it has. Its been over 18 months so far.
Yea Sam, i like it aswell. I was worried it would look wierd, but im happy with it. Just need to get that chrome Calais strip on there now lol. Defently let me know how the spolier goes on your mates car. If i can get it for that price, ill be cheering. Gelcoat doesnt worry me. Ive got a mate who will paint it for a good price for me.

haha sorry mate but to give you more bad news i only put my cam in last november haha didnt take long for the box to go south, its not completly shaged but it fuks around abit going from first to second at the drags, i dont feel it on the street, its like when i bort it on the street well except for the extra 120 or so hp.
ill look into the full build michael but how much do you recon a fully built 4l60e would take cos ill do heads later nd maybe some nos on and engine upgrade
OMR346

Most good trans builders will say there box's are good for around 600hp. Ive known some 4L60e's to take 500rwhp thru them, which is well over what the builders say they are good for. But then ive seen others that have blown with 400rwhp, and needed to be rebuilt for the 2nd or 3rd time. Have a talk to Craigs Transmissions in Sydney and see what they can do for you.
Oh, and i thoguht i might rub it in again... My car has done 30,000kms, 18 months, 2 Powercruises, 80 or so Willowbank runs, plus numerous other shit, and its still going.... Barely, but its still going lol
Matt, A PSYCHO, had his cam in for 3000kms before it lost 2nd gear. Now he has the box in getting built. And another mate of mine has a VT SS with 231/239 cam (same as what SammyK is going) and done about the same before his box blew.
I guess ive just been lucky with this one. It was deserved after my last car. VP SS with a few mods and i blew a suposed built T700r to pieces. Then blew another box not long after getting it rebuilt.
mines no ecactly blown but i think its holding me back at the drags and that will not be tolerated
OMR346
09-03-2011, 09:34 PM
haha Great excuse to get it built then lol. Mine still drives, but it slips when i plant it while driving along, and hits the limiter on the 2-3 gear change when high in the revs, instead of just dropping it like it used to. It also is really laggy and sloppy on gear changes, at all times.
yer mines just abit slow from first to second but thats enuf to get it done for me dont want the troubles of blowing the box in the midle of a drag meet, so ill get the other one built the keep the ogiginal for a spare.
are you going all out with you build?

A mate of mine is in the middle of building a VH with an LS1 (head/cam/Vic Jr combo). Itll be interesting to see how it goes when its finished.
yer im thinking of heads and cam to start off then nos to keeo it cheep then stroke and blower mostly for drags then tho, gona get the misses into drag racing so will skip super street and put her straight into super sedan, mmm vh sounds like he will be having fun driving something like the, i love vh's but i already had the vk as a spare car

Steedsy, have you got a link to the spolier you bought? There are a couple on Ebay that i have seen. Dont be scared of a cam. It was the best thing ive done to my car. dont stress about putting a cam in mate like omr346 said his box has lasted ages and its had a fairly hard life and mine has a fairly big cam and has done about 200 drag passes countless skidz track days and motorvation where it coped a thrashing with full 1/4 mile skidz, and its fine for street driving, it only shows the slightest sign of hesitation and the drags nothing to worry about.
if you look after you trany, instal a big trans cooler and dont thrash the guts out of it, a small cam will do fine in there

Yea mate finally got one. I'm bought it off NZSHAKER on here. It was built by Craig's a while back, and then freshened up by a local shop at Christmas time. I've known him for years and I know he does things right, so I have faith in the box.
Still staying with the 3500rpm Dominator I have now. I've just picked up a 400ci for my HG so time to concentrate on that one now, and leave this one as the daily.

Tall poppy syndrome??? Yet your the one carrying on about a badge? Half the VN-VS Commodores in Queensland have HSV badges and body kits on them, yet they are still only worth $500 lol.
And of course your car is worth more then my misses car you douche bag. But my car is worth twice yours, so go suck on that :flipoff: lol

Your car isnt faster.. You just pulled away up top becuase mine changed gears before you... Notice how i was pulling until i changed in to 3rd. And that was even while spinning the tyres when we took off. Thats the bad part about short diff gears and a rolling start. You will discover that now that you have fitted your new diff lol. So until you show a faster time slip, it aint faster :p
And yes, you better get a more quieter exhaust, you noisy HSV (Berlina) driver.
Ill have a talk to Chris during the week and see what he wants to do about the DB test. I think i will be getting that new exhaust sooner rather then later now lol

Not with this cam. If it was a small cam or non-cam tune, then yea he would do it.
How is your Crewman going anyway mate? I never heard back from you last time we spoke.
Finished the cam install at around 3:30am this morning. Took it for a drive, and it is definitely an improvement over the 228/230 cam i just took out. It should be interesting when it is tuned.

also i noticed while reading through this 13 page novel you know someone who can do tuning. I am looking to get this done in about a month, wanna get a few runs down willowbank in the form i bought my new car before going mafless and tune. then run it again and have fun till i eventually go cam before winter next year. If you're going up to willowbank on the 22nd i'll have a chat with ya then about all that.

Yes, we can do you a tune and even OTR if you like. The one that does the tuning should be at Willowbank with me as well. So we can definitely have a chat about it if you like. We can also do a cam package for you if you want.

The VZ went rather well out at Powercruise. Used 3 bottles of gas. Unfortunately there was no one there doing refills. With the ET Streets on it was hooking up rather well and i was winning almost every race i had. Even against blown LS1 and LS2's. Walked away from a 440ci Charger with ease, and with a full car load.
I definitely recommend the bottle to anyone looking for that extra bit of go. It is addictive. I want more lol

Third run was almost identical to the first.
Fourth run was wheel spin city and heard a bang half track (while still spinning the tires) so backed off and called it a night.
The 26" ET Streets keep spinning and i'm crossing the line in 4th. Time to get some 28" ET Streets (or maybe even some slicks and front runners).

Few new updates. Now have a new custom grind cam, 1 7/8" pipes, 80lb injectors, oil pump, duel row chain, rod bolts, and a few others bits and pieces. Made 440hp aspirated and 560hp on gas. Ran 10.9 @ 126mph on gas with wheel spin, and 11.5 @ 118mph off gas. Unfortunately now its under stalled with the little 3500rpm Dominator. Time for 5000rpm stall, surge tank, fuel reg, E85, Holley Hi-ram manifold, and 200hp gas.
