I am after a new set of rims for the sportswagon. It is used mostly for running the family around and getting to and from work. So I dont want a bone rattling ride.
I really like the look of 20s but not to sure on the ride and how long the rims last. We do alot of driving on bad country roads.
I am after your experiences with either 19s or 20s on VEs. It would be even better to hear from those of you who have had both.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I have driven both, with stock fe2 the 19" are smoother than the 20" but by no mean are the 20" uncomfortable but you can notice the transition from 20 to 19 that the 19 is smoother than 20". All in all not a great deal of difference between the two to worry about it if you prefer the 20" look than go for it.

The rough ride feel has improved massively in the ve range, my last car was lowered on ssl's had 19s & the ride was very rough. Ive got ssl's on my ssv with shortened shocks rolling on the stock 19's & i have to say the ride is as close to stock as your gonna get, yes you will still get the "odd" bump here & there but its not too bad.

On my old VE I had 19s and 20s on it when it was lowered
I would take it to the tip every weekend and other rough roads, and the difference between the 19s and 20s was buckleys IMHO.
VEs on 22's are not even that harsh when set up properly
I think if you can afford the rubber and like the look, go for the 20s mate!
Good luck

i had 20s on my calais with lowered springs only - freakin awful and a big reason I sold the car. They had some cheap tyre on there that got really loud as it wore.
Now have 19s on my calais v and the difference is like night and day. Although 20s seem to have a bigger range of cheap tyres. I will be sticking with 19s (original Supersport 19s) and if I change I will only get Supersports in the 20s with OEM rubber.
Dont skimp on either the tyre or wheel - its probably the most important part of the car in terms of safety and handling.

Depends what you want! 19's are a good size and a good ride. 20's are on the edge with the size profile tyre used in the commodore range. hate to think how 22's are !!!!!!!

I noticed a huge difference between the standard 18,s on my ss ute to the 20,s on it now. 18" was a nice smoooooth ride while the 20,s arent bad but you definitely feel the bumps more with a sharp edged type hit to them, not uncomfortably so but noticeable. I would opt for the 19 if you plan on driving crap roads most of the time, they wont fill the arches enough but then again nor do 20,s and the price diff is a bit and a higher profile tyre will give you better comfort and a bit more peice of mind with harsh potholes. My opinion take it or leave it.

hmmm, I went from 18's to 22's with standard FE2 suspension and ssl Kings.
The ride really isn't that much different. Yes it rubs on the occasion that you hit a one foot deep pot hole the size of a football at 100klm's but the rest of the time you wouldn't even notice you've changed to a bigger wheel and a lower ride.

22's are awesome, ride better than 18's,i know youd think the opposite but ive just done the swap ,they are firmer but generally smoother if that makes sense,i think the bigger rolling diameter doesnt drop into the holes as much

I just put 20's on my VE Berlina last saturday, I already had King SL's and the ride is fine with them on.
I was in the same mind that I was only going to get 18s so i didnt get a shit ride but talking to a few tyre places convinced me to run with the 20" wheels.
Glad I did as it rides not far off what it did with stock 17's.
Do it.

Go for the 20s, I got my SV6 on SSSL springs and 20s and it rides good.

Haha, lucky I ordered 20s then.
I took a VE SS with 20s for drive and it handled far better than my VT and VZ with 19s on it. I was expecting a bumpy ride with the 20s but it wasnt bad at all!!
I have ordered 20s from Bob Jane with a Falken F452 tyre for $1600 change over. Just waiting for Holden to deliver the car.
3 weeks and counting!
