Friday July 3 2009 Holden Special Vehicles confirms launch of E Series 2
Major multi-million upgrade to HSV range
A number of Australian auto technology production ‘firsts’
Major improvements in fuel economy
Unveil before Bathurst

HSV confirmed today the highly successful E Series range will be given a major upgrade with new features, driver enhancements and visual changes for introduction later in 2009.

According to Managing Director Phil Harding, the multi-million dollar program includes major visual differentiation and introduces at least five firsts for Australian production cars – a huge shot in the arm for the local industry.

“We know our customers want the latest technologies, as well as distinctive luxury and performance features in their HSV,” he said.

“Our customers will be delighted with the delivery of improved economy, more power, some truly exciting driver enhancements and distinctive design themes.”

HSV will start a staged preview campaign aimed at generating customer interest and demand in the new model. Dealers, frequent buyers and loyal customers will be supplied this information ahead of general release because of the importance of this new model to HSV.

The HSV Dealer network has been briefed on the changes, and they are actively speaking with past, present and future customers about the exciting new models.

“This represents a massive change for the successful E Series range and is the culmination of three years of research and development,” Phil Harding said.

More details will be released when E Series 2 is launched.

In the interim, keep visiting www.hsv.com.au for further information, features and footage on E Series 2 prior to the launch.

Well was at Hunter Holden last night & peered under / over all of them, including the mule, the orange GTS with yellow calipers & centre caps (talk about Clash with a capital C !) that's on the front of Motor Mag.

Plenty is good - but my thoughts on what's not......

Black (& I imagine other dark colours) looks great - hides the rear non-painted bits.

Rear in light colour looks like a Super'd Aurion.

Senator has an enormous lion/helmet badge on the grille which is just hideous - maybe becasue it doesn't have a circular surround like every other front end badge before it. Doesn't look symmetrical at the front because of it.

The bi-modal, sounds great by all accounts - ridiculous option price. It is just the rear mufflers that are different (& whatever actuates it I suppose - the software (if any) would already be in there - they just connect it up at Clayton). The remainder of the system is identical to non-bi-modal systems.

Could be stating the obvious here, but as an aside, now have a Walkinshaw Performance 2.5" cat back and the original systems on all the E2's - including the mule, are made by the same manufacturer. Same nomenclature on the stickers that were still adhered to the rear mufflers. Only difference is the front hangers just after the cats are a bracket welded to the pipe on the E2, while the WP system is a rod welded to the pipe & it looks like 2.25", not
2.5".

The HSV 'demo' W427 (a very ratty one - VIC rego 'W427W') from the cats back that was there also appeared to have the same system as the WP 2.5".

Maybe that's why HM Headers website has no meaningful info whatsoever - they're too busy making OE exhausts for HSV.

By the way, anyone who has a VE & wants a nice but not loud exhaust, drone free - look no further than a WP 2.5" cat back. Quiet enough when tootling - a cracking sound when you drill it. Just love it !
