I recently had to get a second hand motor put in, i was told the motor has got 92000kms half of what my engine had. So how do i find out info on the new engine that is in, i do have the engine number. just like to know what car the engine came out of and when was it built.

You'll be hard pressed to find the exact vehicle that it came out. You should be able to narrow it down a bit (as in the date of engine manufacture) but finding when it was put in to a vehicle or even what specification its out of is pretty much finding a needle in a haystack unless you know where it has come from. GMH don't keep a record of all the vehicles and their associated numbers if that's what you were chasing.

Well all i know it came out of a vy. I just want to know if the engine number would tell if it came out of a vy series 1 or series 2.

I think you will only get that information through the back door only if you know someone who works at and can get into the computer at a Holden dealership.

The engine number can tell you the year/day the engine number was built in Mexico.
An '05 LS1 (from a service manual example) VF051904500 "05" = year, "190" = day. "4500" = sequential number.
IIRC, VY1 had cable throttle, VY2 FBW throttle.
What is your engine number? :)

The original engine number in my VY SV8 series 2 is VF031960659 and the second hand motor is VF020291315. I am hoping the new engine is the same as the original. When the vy series 2 came out it had 245kw and the series 1 had 235kw, the extra 10kw is that done by the computer and wiring harness or has the car lost 10kw with the new engine.

VZ were the first with FBW I am pretty sure. :)

Looks to be an early 02 model.

What is meant by sequential

What is meant by sequential
Numbered in a sequence. 1st is 0001, 800th is 0800, 2,353rd is 2353.
The 2353 is the 2,353rd engine produced that day.

Breaking that down then...
Looks like "Built 02" on "29th day of the year" and was the "1,315th engine built" that year (sequential number.)??? must be a series 1 engine.

I did hear the only difference between the series 1 engine with 235kw and the series 2 with 245kw is the computer and wiring harness that gives it the extra 10kw and i know the mechanics used the original computer and harness. I am thinking of getting it put on the dyno so i can kind of know what its putting out at the flywheel

I dont think you have much to worrie about,,VZ had the FBW throttle,,very sure the engines are the same,, just the computer upgrade, has the engine got a second belt for the aircon condensor?

Is it a VYII Crewman built post VZ release? I know an early 2005 Cross8 Crewman is called a VYII but it has a VZ engine.

I'd like to break down his VIN before believing this Crewman is a regular VY.
Some all wheel drive models were VZ VIN's, but without option TID. Non TID VZ AWD models look like VY's.

I don't know Crewman specifics, but if it's built early 05 and has an alloytech engine, why wouldn't it be a VZ? Otherwise what's the difference VY to VZ - different bonnet, and interior trim, badges and wheels maybe?
