I've got a SS VY sedan with sl kings front and ssl kings rear. How much higher will it raise the rear with sl kings? Still origional ss wheels 18's.Didnt want the car too high. I'm wanting the car to be approx 10 mm above the tyre max.At the moment its about 5mm below the tyre.If anyones got picks of similiar setup would be great to see.

Thanks Richie

Sounds like they've sagged to me as SSL should be about level with or just above the tyre. On VE at least, and probably VY as well, SL are about stock FE2 height i.e. about 40 - 50mm above the tyre!

I'd investigate buying new SSLs, possibly even the HD version (stiffer, resist sagging) if you can stand the extra firmness. What shockers are you running? If stock FE2 and they've been in a while they and the rubbers are probably shagged so maybe even new shockers would bring it back up a bit.

Original FE2 shocks done 65,000. The rear springs have 46-ssl written on them and there new.

46-SSL sounds right but I'll check the King's site in a while to see if the HDs are available in that range. With 60,000km on them then the original shocks are probably stuffed too, especially if the SSLs have been on for a while as they force the shocks to try to work well outside their normal range.

Before you go changing springs I'd try pricing up a set of KYB or Boge short body shocks for the rear - not very dear and if nothing else will improve the handling, plus may even lift it with the new rubbers etc if the existing ones have basically collapsed.

Oops! Just read your edit re the springs being new - that changes things a bit but I'm pretty sure you'll find SLs will take you back to around stock FE2 height.

SL s are definately lower than FE2, SL s should see the rear guard sitting right on top of the tyre, maybe even a fraction lower in my VY the tyre sat just under the guard and the front guard sat about half inch above the wheel on 17's looked good sorry it's not a great pic

The fronts have sl and it sits just above the tyre.Perfect height for me.But the rear with ssl are just below the top of the 18. Too low for my liking. So not sure if sl is the way to go or change shocks.

fair enough, i don't think changing the shocks will give you any more height but they will give you a much nicer ride, in my VY i had monroe GTs, i think they are really good for the price but as far as your problem goes i think you would be happy with SL's in the rear, just my opinion though

I ended up getting HRL61SL (Superlow) in the rear, which are a touch heavier duty than the normal ones in the catalogue, and got HFL70XSL (Ultralow) in the front - Lovell brand.

The guy said he could do the catalogue reccomended springs but said it wouldn't sit even. So he reccomended the slightly lower ones in the front which now makes it look perfect.

Didn't want something that was going to scrape everywhere and look crap, just a nice clean look. I am running standard FE2 shocks too.

Very nice ride too, not too harsh and no scrubbing.:yeah:

i really can't remember how much i paid i got them in a package with the springs, i don't even have this car anymore, they weren't expensive, any suspension shop who deals with king springs should have them, they've become quite popular and were designed to go with the kings..as for more pics i'm sure you could find some in the lowering gallery or even just type 'superlow' into the search box

Fair enough - as I said in VE the quoted King SL height is about the same as stock FE2, about 395mm centre of rim to arch. Below is my VZ SS (18" rims) with King SSL and KYB short shocks all round. Doesn't look significantly different to the Hothouse VY above. As the tyres wore the gap between tyre and arch became more pronounced.

OP<<if its only JUST too low, maybe a spring spacer.. a bigger rubber spring mount locater thingy

from what i remeber reserching..
FE2 is 15-20mm lower than stock.
SL 30mm.
SSL 45mm.
SSSL 60mm.

the retail pricing on the gt monroes:

Monroe GT Sport 35-0579 (l) 35-0580 (r) $ 312.00 + GST per pair.
Rear Monroe GT Sport 15-0592 RRP $245.00 + GST per pair.

that's retail from kris at kings,
i got it for a lot cheaper than that and really didn't shop around that much,
all up with the springs and shocks i ended up getting it for about $180 cheaper than what the recommended price was. Prolly could have got it cheaper again through an installer.

The sssl's in the rear will lower it 55mm and the front sssl's will lower it 40mm. On a ve anyway. The shocks wont make a difference to the ride height, just how much travel there'll be. Within reason.

This was my VZ SV6 with King SL springs, FE2 shocks and stock 17" wheels.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn248/wikky31/P4180058.jpg

This was after I had the 19" wheels put on, but same spring/shock setup.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn248/wikky31/PB020012.jpg

Might not be much use to you but maybe just for height comparisons.

How do you go with speed bumps? That looks like mine now with sl front and ssl rear.

Looks like Kings still have variability in height issues, even on new springs.......... :(

I had to be very careful with speed humps and driveways etc. But the ride harshness was the killer for me. Looked shit-hot but wasn't very practical. :bawl:

I've finally had a chance to take photos of the car with Kings sl's front and rear. The height is perfect for my liking.Sits nicely on the road and not too harsh on the ride.I also changed the fe2 shocks to GT Monroes.:cool:http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy329/richierichhsv1/P3224604.jpghttp://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy329/richierichhsv1/P3224605.jpghttp://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy329/richierichhsv1/P3224607.jpg
