View Full Version : Phantom SS Ute Interior Options

Hi guys,
I've just ordered my phantom MY10 VE SS Ute and stipulated onyx cloth interior to my dealer and he thus placed the order.
My question is, the holden website shows that phantom coloured ute's can only have red hot as the interior choice when cloth is ordered...
Am I missing something here or could i be ending up with the wrong interior....?
I've seen the build tracking description for my actual car and it states the interior as being onyx...not sure what the go is? Have Holden relaxed the rules on interior combo's or is there every chance i'll end up with a different interior to the one i've ordered/intended.
Any experiences or opinions on this would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Spoony.

Why not just ask the dealership you're buying it from and get a 100% accurate answer? Seems the logical option to me...

I have, and they say there is no problem - which is at odds with everything i've read and know about that interior/colour combo...who to trust?

your contract says onyx... if it turns up red, tell them to order you another car with onyx.

Mate,
I have an Phantom SSV with Onyx and the red applies to the speedo and such.
blue interior has blue dash & speedo, red has red dash and speedo while onyx has black dash & red speedo.
Hope that helps.

MY MY9.5 Phantom SSV has the Voodoo smartpak option (seats, dash, instruments) I just ordered the MY10 "Special edition" (G8) in phantom and asked for redhot interior, surprise all exterior colours now only available with onyx interior grey intruments. I thought the red hot interior would be true to the Pontiac memory. I hope the all black grey is not too beige lookin cmon Holden live a bit.

Does anyone out there have a phantom VE SS with onyx cloth seats?
I think that's what I am trying to establish here...

perhaps the website has been updated in the last 12 hours, but i just had a look and the only options for a phantom SS ute is onyx cloth or onyx leather.
Ignore the previous posts, the all relate to SSV's in which coloured dash, dials and seats are all options.

Jeez... Just checked the Holden website and you're right. WTF is with that? The grey dash looks boring as batshit. The red was the only thing in the cab that breaks up the huge expanse of grey leather and plastic.
Less than two weeks until mine arrives - I'll certainly be speaking to the dealership about this. Hope they can be changed over easily, but my gut says it'll be expensive :vpo:

More than likely will be but not as bad as having an atomic ss ute that you cant get green option for anything so aftermarket products must be sought and be stuffed if I am gunna have a crack at rippin the dash to bits, so more coin ARRGH! Oh well once completed at least there wont be to many others around!

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Another example of Holdens poor comunication. You would have thought that it would have been made crystal clear to anyone who had ordered a new vehicle that colour changes have occured. :flipoff:

I have the onyx leather and I don't really know what I would prefer, red or grey. The only thing that puzzles me is that the backlights on everything is red except the speedo and rpms are lit in white...????

Yes you can, the only change is Phantom now comes with grey instruments as standard with onyx instead of red instruments with onxy.... its just a matter of what you prefer, the grey instruments were not an option on the Phantom before either.
Personally i much prefer the red instruments as it matched the rest of the red coloured dash lights.
Maybe Holden do changes like these so that there are suttle differences between MY Releases, but this doesnt explain why the same changes have not occured in other colours.

well i'll be pissed if my yoot turns up with grey instruments as I told the dealer I wanted the red cluster and the quote says with red instrument cluster on it. I even asked about getting a red interior but with the grey dash, said something like I'd have to buy a second interior and have the dash fitted, said the cost would be something ridiculous like $3k+. suggested i get the red instrument cluster and get the seats retrimmed in red... said that would only be $2500... ended up ordering the red steering wheel and gear knob with the SS mats to break up the grey and to go with the red instruments. If holden were using this as some way to move more red interiors (the only option with red instruments) then they'd have been better off getting rid of the colour matched dash :spew: Sometimes I wonder if car manufactures like pissing their potential customers off with stupid little things like this... :soap:

I don't mind the grey instrument faces on the cluster but why the white light instead of red like every other backlight in the car?

Boss I have never seen these at night, does it look strange having the mix of red and white on the dash?... its always been a pet hate of mine to see cars with different coloured lights in the car such as that on the instrument display, audio unit and instrument cluster.:spew:
I dont really care what coloured lights as long as they are all the same. this way it look like the design was built to be together as opposed to a desperation mix.

This was a running change with the release of MY9.5 i believe.
It used to be all red but obviously based on feedback they have changed it. It never bother me in my My8.5 ute with the full red illumination but i could see how it may bother others, and the white it much better.
and no it doesnt look odd, i think it looks fine.

That does fine, much much better than i imagined.... i think it works well because there is still white illimination on the head unit and they have mixed a tad of red on the V8 and SS lettering on the dials.
I would even go as far to say that i think i actally prefer the white light at night, however the red dials look better during the day.
Thanks for posting that pic up moccon

Actually alpha, it doesn't look too bad, as mentioned with the SS and the V8 lighting up in red as well as the base of the needles on the dials.

Reading back over my last post my spelling and gramma is terrible, brain cells are not in full swing as i have a 3 month old who is a night shift worker. Please excuse.
Cheers Boss, I had already fired an e-mail off to my dealer telling them that i wanted the red dials ..... just sent another e-mail retracting that first e-mail... never pays to jump the gun. lol
I think the atari digits and the function screen in the middle of the dash would also look awesome in white.
Although im still happy with my order Holden should not spring these sorts of suprises on people, especially when we are forking out $40k +.

Look at Holden's website. The same changes HAVE occured to other models. Pretty sure Atomic green came with a colour coded dash cluster. No longer does, only grey.

That is correct. But the Onyx interior used to come with the red cluster, now only grey. The red cluster only comes with the red leather seats, and also on Herron white SSV's
I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer regarding mine, but I'd say it'll be grey. Either way I'll know by the end of this week. It's being delivered ahead of schedule.

No, only sedan has the subs and amp package according to the holden website however there has been mention on this forum that ute gets it aswell.
Wagon doesnt get it.
Though im not weeing myself over it, knowing the quality of holden sound systems, and given the system i'll be installing myself shortly i dont think im missing much.

Don't have a clue what the Sedan/wagons have, but I have a brochure for the MY10 ute and the previous Model year. The only differences are Poison Ivy replaces Ignition, some extra airbags and the audio upgrade on the SSV as standard and not available on the other ute models (standard on maloo though I think).

Was just joking mate. When deciding what to get, an extra two airbags and speaker mean diddly squat. I didn't even know about them at the time of purchase and don't care anyway. Am a little disapointed about the red dash though...

Agreed. This will be my fourth late model commodore. The audio was rubbish in every one of them. I'll be installing an aftermarket sound system aswell... it's called a twin 3" stainless system!

Guys I guess this is the right thread to post this as it's on topic:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HOLDEN-VE-SS-UTE-LEATHER-SEAT-COVERS-DOORTRIMS_W0QQitemZ190342198079QQcmdZViewItemQQptZ AU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2c5147733f
What do you guys think of these?
I can see them costing $300-$400 to have installed as i'm guessing they need to take the cloth off and retrim with this stuff - still seems like a cheap option for what looks like decent leather.
Also, has anyone on here had experience with getting the standard cloth embroidered? Wouldn't mind getting "SS" done on each headrest in a subtle silver colour to add a little spark to the stock onyx cloth interior....
Any advice would be great.
Oh and Roonstain if you are reading this, i've signed up with the South Sydney Car Club, I just can't reply to your PM's until I reach 15 posts.
