Whilst it was rumoured to be on the cards it is now official.

The V8 Supercars are stepping up to the plate by putting on 4 x 150km races over the weekend.
Those drivers are going to be stuffed by the end of this weekend considering Bathurst was only last weekend.
Big raps to the V8's for doing it though to ensure those who purchased tickets still got their moneys worth. :goodjob:

If I was a ticket holder I would much rather watch 4 V8 races then the A1GP's.

cheers

Going over from NZ to see this event. The V8's were always what I was going for, I guess I just get to see more of them now. Look like the A1GP series is stuffed.

Bloody hell hey, although the V8's are great, their is something about the open wheelers at indy - it was something we didnt get to experience normally and it will be a shame that we dont get that. But hell 4 V8 races - sound bloody good - be even better if they went into the twilight / evening race.

But lets look at how the event has come along this year
1. The first naming rights sponsor doesnt pay a cent - due to financial issues
2. Mercandising is already done with said sponsor - made in china early
3. A1GP falls on it arse

Lets just hope bad luck comes in threes and then good luck for here on

Bonus we get to see more V8's although A1 can be pretty interesting racing especially when compared to F1. (IMO)

I hope this doesn't effect the running of future meets in the coming years as I have always hoped to get over there for a race weekend.

nice, i am going to enjoy watching 4 V8 races. not a big fan of the open wheelers, prefer the tin tops. but now its going to bloody fantastic.

and lets hope there are some good support categories too

Aussie race cars would be great along with gearbox karts and formula holden or ford.......

Either way a race weekend on the gold coast is always a great weekend.......

I went to both A1GP races at the creek so I am not bothered really that they aren't coming.
It's likely to be the last time this race will be held as I cannot see Captain Bligh pumping in all this money for a future V8 race with no International series competing.

I think moreso that the track itself is not really set up for our V8's. It was designed for the Indy cars. I have read many articles were drivers have stated it is not their favorite track for that reason.

Compare it to Adelaide or even the new Townsville track and they are heaps better street tracks for the V8's to race.

Yes true Carby.
The drivers love the circuit just the same but the teams owners tend not to like it as it can cause some big repair bills.

This will be my 14th year going and have enjoyed every one.

As much as I love seeing the V8's at the Gold Coast I still think it's a shame there's no open wheelers, after all that's what "Indy" was all about, and the V8's were an awesome bonus on top...

For those that might have visited Bowdens Car " Museum " on one of the recent tours , and any other interested parties , Bowdens are letting around 10 of their cars go to the Gold Coast to be run in a " spirited " exhibition and to be driven by racing legends such as Dick Johnson , Kevin Bartlett and others . I reckon this is a great gesture by Bowdens , considering the value some of the cars have . This might be enough to get me up there to have a look . Just imagine how good it would have been if Brocky was still around .
