Just after some opinions on the Walkinshaw package compared with some other variants out there. Have been quoted $3700 to install air intake, 2.5" exhaust and dyno tune. Have just purchased a new MY9.5 SS Ute - want to get this done fairly soon (ie just after my 3k service). Not sure if all 'Walkinshaw' packages are the same, but would like to know:
Is this price competitive?
Has anyone had this done to their VE SS and if so what was your opinion on the end result?
Has anyone dealt with these guys before: www.formulatech.com.au in Perth?
Any recommendations for other performance shops in Perth (prefer SOR) that I can compare with?
Was told that none of these modifications would effect my warranty (yea right) - anyone care to comment?
I'm not too up to speed on engine mechanics and the like, so I don't want to get taken for a ride and end up ruining my new toy, so any suggestions to steer me in the right direction would be greatly appreaciated and put my mind at ease.
Thanks in advance.

That's a rip off !!! :vpo:
OTR around $600
X Force 2.5" catback zorst around $1000
Maf tune around $800
Not sure you need a tune with just OTR and catback. If not save the coin for later when you do other mods....

For that price you should be getting a full exhaust system.
I have heard good and bad things about formula tech ... if i were you i would be calling Mitch at WA Performance:goodjob:.
as for your warranty scares i dont think that its a issue for bolt on's, I wouldn't be breaking that factory seal tho.

Do a quick search on here for the general concensus on Formula Tech (saving you the time... its not a good opinion).
I know when I priced similar work for my car it really surprised me how much all workshops charged for bolt ons - which I thought wasnt great bang for buck with $$$ spent vs increase in HP. The WP stuff definitely seems like you are paying extra for the badge.
I ended up getting just a manta catback for now and fitted it at home. Not sure if I'll bother with the tune/intake for now, as I have other priorities, plus I dont want to pay twice to have a tune done if I can get a cam approved by the Mrs later.

Walkinshaw CAI = SS Inductions Growler with Walkinshaw Badge
Walkinshaw Exhaust = HM Perry system with Walkinshaw Badge
Tune - not sure if this is custom tune
As for warranty, Walkinshaw Performance is the same as any aftermarket tuner/modifier. Holden CAN decline warranty claims due to modifications

thanks for the replies guys :)
rang up WA Performance and spoke to Mitch - after having a quick chat I felt much more 'informed' and it was clear that customer service was his priority. the guy I spoke to at formulatech didn't sound too interested in my enquiry so based on that, and your feedback, i won't be heading that way.
will pop into Active Automotive tomorrow and have a chat with them.
looks like i'll be up for between 3.5k to 4.5k regardless, just depends if i want to do the headers or not.
cheers.

i have seen the HM and walky systems - they do look similar
However, they do sound quite different on the cars....

I think the HM guy is on LS1. IIRC he said that they manufacture for Walkinshaw but that system is not identical. I wonder if he's allowed to say anything in this thread.... probably not

I have the HM Perry exhaust but way cheaper cost....same as the Walkinshaw one. I also have the Walkinshaw intake which is same as the SS Inductions one and I was charged the same price. Looks nice and neat and worksok.
I don't have the tune done as yet and Walkinshaw do not give you a dyno sheet to show the gains. When I have the cash I will be off to Chevs Performance.
