I asked the dealer we purchased the E Series WM Grange from what spare the vehicle has in it. They told me just a black space saver...

Looking at the brochure it states for both the Senator Signature and the Grange -

"19" x 8" front alloy wheel with 245/40 R19 98Y tyre - full size spare"

Does this mean the spare should be the same wheel as what comes on the front of the car ?

Anyone with one of these models please confirm this.

Thanks

JK

Maybe that's what they mean by a full size spare Mike

Tell him to take a photo & email it to you. id say it will be a grange rim just in black like our tourer. as a normal space save wont fit over the HSV brakes

I asked the same question when I bought the Maloo last week . I have 20 pentagons and the spare is a 19 black r8 rim. I said why and it is basically so ya know it is the spare

When the E series were first released they all came with an extra front wheel and tyre as the spare. My early E series R8 was like this at no extra cost and I rotated the spare and front tyres. Sometime during the next three years the full sized spare became an option. I was looking at a superseded GTS which was June 09 build and it had the 19" R8 wheel painted black, a 20" matching front was something like $500 extra but only if it was already included, option it after the car is delivered and the cost is spare parts pricing, $1000+ for the rim and $600 for the OEM Bridgestone tyre.

E2 cars come standard with a can of sealant and an air pump! The temporary spare (again a black E1 R8 wheel) is about $100 from memory. A full sized spare is $600 for the 19" option plus LCT of course. This opton also includes the tyre pressure monitoring system on all 5 tyres. Not sure if this is the same price being charged for the 20" wheels. The E2 R8 I have bought was part way through manufacture and already fitted with the 19s including full sized spare.

I was going to get the 20" pentagons with the black 19" spare wheel to keep costs down but unfortuantely I was too late to change to that option.

Make them put one in if it hasn't your paying big bucks for a car that's spose to have one.

It might even be the case that the bloke you spoke to didn't even look in the boot and just said what he thought.

Nah he went to check. He said it was a 19" rim in black. He then went to look in an E2 Grange and it had the same. So maybe they changed in MY9.5....

Well i dunno about the newer ones, but dad's 06 VE senator has the full size front rim - not black

Supposedly they are a front left (if the tyres equipped were directional that is) as the stats say that is the one people wreck the most - I don't know whether there is any truth to that though

Seems weird to put a black rim in there though? Perhaps people will start a black market of spare rims - already powdercoated! lol

Hmm mabey they do them in black now so people dont just chuck there spare on and not fix the other rim leaving them with no spare.

John ...

I ordered a Series 1 Grange (basically exactly the same as yours) last week. I'll ask the question today, see if it's the same as yours.

I reckon there could be 2 reasons for using a black rim;

1 - to stop people forgetting to have the spare fixed ... I have heard stories of people forgetting and next time they get a flat they realise that the spare is still flat.

2 - discourage the shopping centre car-park break in to steal the spare wheel. If you do it four times you have a complete set that you can sell on EBay. If they are all black they will be hard to sell. (I'm guessing it's not the sort of paint job that people get when they actually want black wheels).

IMO as long as it's a 245 wide 19" rim I won't care ... I never leave the spare on anyway, but I also don't want to be limited to 80km/h on the open road in the event of a flat.

My SSV ute came with the same rim and tyre as the rest however on my mates SSV sedan it was an optional extra.

Explaination was the utes wheels including spare under ADR's needs to comply with the load ratings applicable to the vehicle. It is classed as a commercial vehicle and the sedan is not. Guess Holden save a few bucks doing this

Not a senator or grange but my 09 Maloo came with a full size 20 as spare. I am sure it was a no cost option.

Thanks Mike ... yes & no ...

The GTS has been doing approx. 2,000 kms per month over the last 3 years ... the Grange will take it's spot as the work horse but I'm not selling the GTS. I did intend to, but when I saw the new ones I lost all interest, so I'm keeping the Series 1.

Funny I just bought a black SSV MY9.5 wagon from John Rose at Suttons. He came recommended from a guy i work with. Nothing but good things to say about him.

The wagon didn't come with a full size spare, I had to ask for it (19" SSV wheel). Think it was around $350. If I ordered it down the track it would have been around $600 or more as it's classified as a spare part as they order the rim then they have to take it to a tyre place to buy and put tyre on rim. Best to get it now me thinks :goodjob:

It fits nice and snug in there. I wish the earler models came with a spare mag.
