Hey people,
Now that i am doing some serious investigation into a new ride i thought i would ask people about there experience with fowles auctions.
Realistically i would like a VU-VY ute, as they are within my price range, but after trawling though the forum found a few people happy with ex-cop SS's and may consider something like that at the right price through the auctions, as this would leave a little cash for basic mods.
So anyone bought from the auctions lately??

My mate and i bought a vr statesman down there about a month ago for 2k, we watched this car for about 3 weeks go through the auctions, until the price was right, the secret is to do your home work, go down there for a few weeks and right down the prices of what they go for so you know what to bid when you see a car you like

Fowles aren't too bad when it comes to auction houses, i'd say somewhere in the middle. I prefer Pickles personally, but Fowles are certainly not the dodgiest around!
Just make sure you thoroughly inspect before bidding and don't take the word of the catalogues. Last time i was there (about 2 months ago) there was a VX Exec that a previous owner had stuck a Berlina badge on and it was in the catalogue as a Berlina. Was also a VS Exec that had a few WGR stickers on it and that was also catalogued as being a WGR VS.

i went around a month ago and there were about 5 2008 ve ss ex cop cars all with around 50,000kms on the clock.
The white ones interiors were torn/wrecked and worn pretty bad and they still went for around 28k, there was a silver 2008 vess (unmarked cop) with the ssv rear lights with the usual worn driver seats and door with 53ks on it and that went for $29,000 this was in slightly better condition but by still no means comparable to an equivalent private/dealer owned car.. im sure if your patient something decent may come up but for me considering that the car would end up costing over 30k after taxes and auction payments and rego etc.. those cars were not really worth it considering what is available on carsales atm. Although the cars all had up to date service records etc and are probably mechanically ok they just looked a bit too beat up and abused for the asking 30k.

also a 2007 purple ve ssv sedan not ex cop and in overall better condition went for 38k..pluys rego fees tax etc..

another thing to keep in mind is the ex police car might only have 50k but the motor would of done double that sitting with the a/c on whilst waiting for speeding drivers and so on
the fowles public auctions is just the left over crap after the private dealerships get 1st pic of anything decent
so if your after a ratty used and abused fleet car then go for it !

You must be very carefull when you buy cars from auctions as alot of cars that go through there have been insurance repaired saying that they have not been repaired well it a good way for them to move cars as you buy at own risk

My father bought a car from the auctions a few years ago, and it seemed like he got a pretty good deal.
The only thing that has not been repaired, and I mean the only thing, is the gearbox. But he did all the right things, followed procedure for auctions, but when the *head* went the rest followed. Now he bought a lemon, and while there are some bargains, you dont want to be the guy with that lemon. If its was me with that sort of money, I wouldnt be chancing it at auction.

I bought my XUV from pickles , unseen , no dramas .
go see the car if you can ,
check the fluids , start 'er up ,
and don't pay any more than the min red book trade-in price .
That way you'll be able trade it in , without losing too much ,
if it's not what you expected .
Pickles offer a warranty you can purchase too .
