HI Guys,

I have been told by a tyre dealer that the size of the rear tyres on my GTO are incorrect at 235. They should be standard 245 and they have never seen a GTO with that size.

Holden said 235 are standard.?

Anyone with the answer.

Neil

235 and 245 are virtually identical. Difference is the brand and you will find the actual tread width almost the same if you got out a ruler and measured. Some brands sell the 235 and 255, 265 etc. Some sell 225, 245, 265 etc.
Not a big deal at all and really means nothing. As long as the tyre profile is correct for the wheel rim size you will be fine.

During VZ, HSV changed from Pirelli P Zero in 245/35/R19 size to Yokohama Advan in 235/35/R19 size.

We own a GTO originally fitted with the 245 Pirellis....a MAGIC tyre if you can cop ridiculously high wear rate....I don't know how much longer I can "cop it"!
As has been said, during 2006, HSV started delivering GTOs with the much cheaper Yokohama Advans (with no reduction in price of the GTO though!), & the Yokos were also the smaller 235 section tyre. Some say the original 245 section is too wide for the 8" rim.....I don't know.....but I prefer the 245 section, & will continue to use it.
Cheers, Pickles.

And yet many commented that these Advans had much better grip than the P Zero's Martin...:stick:

Yes, some do say that Dave, it's a bit subjective I suppose, but I'm sure I'm not a good enough driver to find out anyway.
Anyway, I'm an "original" man......that's why I use the Pirellis....if the Yokos or Bridgestones were original fitment on my car new, I'd use them!
Cheers, Pickles.

Yeah most of us wouldn't push the limits hard enough on here to know!

my 06 gto came with 235's on 18" wheels, and just looked too undersized. 245's suit those wheels a lot nicer!

You should just go to 19" via a set of HSV GTO wheels....I'm sure your dealer wouldn't have a problem obtaining some....it'd be worth the trouble.
19" is the go anyway, IMHO.

the car must have a tyre placard???? that will tell you the correct size load and speed rating

Pickles,

What sort of dollars for the Pirellis. The Yoks are $590.00 each though are on sale for $390.00.

I have 245/35x19 yoko advan sports on my 05 VZ senators 19x8" wheels and I prefer this size as it gives the rim a bit more protection.
Iv'e seen the same tyre in 235 size on the same rims and the tyre sits much squarer to the rim virtually offering no rim protection against even light kerb rubbing.
Sure the tyre may squirm a little at the limit but honestly how many times are you on the limit and besides mine has the luxury suspension so not really setup for the twisty bits at full throttle.
I use to have 235 on 18x8.5 on my last car and the tyres had more feel but you could even drop the tyre/rim when off the car on its face side or the rim would actually sit/hit on the ground.

I won't be driving mine to the limit. I ended up getting the 235 which is too late to change now.

Not saying all tyre dealers are the same, but from my experience, its a good chance he didnt have the 235's in stock but plenty of 245's he needed too move!!

I only use 1 dealer now here in adelaide.
