View Full Version : 245/35/20 on vy ute
hey guys,
this has been eating me up inside and have indifferent answers from each individual i ask... im hoping someone on here can give me a definate answer. i bought a set of 20's with 245/35/20 tyres, however i have been told by some that they will fit and some that they wont.
-Either it is too big for the front and will scrub when i steer.
-The back will scrub unless i get my guards rolled.
-That only 225's are the widest i can fit with 20's on a vy.
It is for a vy ss ute and it has been lowered from factory, the springs are red (pedders i think) and they sit as if they are equivalent to superlows.
If anyone can clarify for me it would be appreciated.
Thanks

They are almost certain to make contact on the front struts if they are still the std type, as for the rear i have 245-35-20's on my vu ute, my gaurd lips are rolled and i dont get any issue on the passanger side but on the drivers side my tyre just touchs where the gaurd meets the rear bumper, it just hits on the sidewall.
all this will depend on the offset of your rims.

this is why i run 245/30/20 no issues

you can run 30 profile all round with no dramas... 35 profile will fit on some models, Mainly HSV FE2 struts.. EG my brother runs 35 profile on a VZ Senator 245/35/20... Spring height wont be an issue.... also what off-set are the rims??.. If thay are 45ish scrubbig wont be an issue, if its less then 42 i would roll the rear gaurds

I faced the same dilemma when I purchased some 20s for my VYII SS ute recently.
One shop told me one thing and a few others told me something different.
A forum member shared his experience with both sizes and said that the 35 series fouled badly and the 30s where spot on.
Needless to say I went for the 245/30/20 and they have been spot on with no fouling issues except for a small rub on one of the front struts which can hopefully sorted with some wheel alignment changes.
I have also had the ute well loaded and still no rubbing issues either.
BTW I think the offset on my wheels is 48P, which obviously play a significant part also.
Good luck.
thanks guys,
bad355 are your rear guards rolled at all? so pretty much if i get some 245/30/20's with the same suspension set up i have at the moment it will fit straight on, without having to get my guards rolled out. they are the ve gts replicas and i think they are a 45 offset? correct me if im wrong.
thanks

To answer your question: My guards are untouched. My tyres currently sit about 1/2-3/4" under the top of my guards.
Also, I just checked the offset of my wheels, and they are actually 45 (not 48), which means that the wheel is further inward than a 48...

they will foul for sure, tempe told me 30 series in 245 or 225/35's which are not load rated and im still stumped why they fit them...

just make sure when you run the 245/30r20 there load rated and instead of rolling the guards(if lowered) run abit of neg camber at the back ,but down side will be the tyres will wear on the inside edge badly

one of my mates runs on 17"s 265's on the rear just with rolled gaurds, but fronts would be an issue unless you run coilovers

I had 245/35/20 on the rear of my vy wagon and they scraped really bad , not sure if the ute has more room than a wagon but they seemed to scrap on the inside of the car not on the lip as the guard's have'nt been rolled.
