hi
to the guys that have changed engines
what did you do about the engines numbers
is it easy to get the new engine reg
do you have to take the car in to be inspected ?
if so i guess it should be as stock looking /sounding as possible
??
any horror stories ????

In W.A. all you have to do is take your rego papers into a licencing centre and fill out a form stating the new engine number. Very easy and free. It'd have to be pretty similar everywhere else I'd assume :)

Edit:
The form asks for things like old engine capacity, new engine capacity, old engine power, new engine power, etc. I asked the chick behind the desk about what I should fill in for the power ones because "I didn't know" :hide: and she said they only needed the old/new engine numbers anyway  Easy as!

In NSW, I have a vague memory (around 1990/91 - first big mod I did by myself) of RTA staff coming out to the car park to inspect my car for a change where I basically had to point it out for them :deal: cant remember if that was an engine though ...

More recently in NSW last time I did this was a 'slip' job - i.e. a mechanic / workshop approved for this sort of work has to eyeball the change and sign a form you then take back to RTA. Cant remember colour though - there's been a few cars and changes I've made :) blue or brown

When I changed my block I went to Transport department and they said I had to get a number from the Police and the mod plate done first.
So you go to the Police and fill out a " Request for Permission to Place a Surrogate Number on the Engine or Chassis of a Motor Vehicle " form, they then give you a new number which you then go to the place who is going to do your mod plate and they will stamp the new number on and do the mod plate. they will need to no the new engine capacity, in my case with a blown motor and 415 cubic inch I was about 1 ci over but the guy just put it down as the max. you then go back to the Police and they will eyeball the new number on the block and signoff on it. then you go back to the Transport Dept and they will fill out a form changing it on your Rego and eyeball your mod plate and the number. and your done.
It is easey to get done just a bit time consuming going back and forth and the cost of the mod plate, in my case $90.

Should mention this was in Qld, so is different in each state. should also mention my block was a new LS3 (block only) and had no number on it. it may be different if you already have a number on your block.

Ive done this twice in Qld Bob.... all ive ever done was take the car to Qld Transport, fill out a engine tranfer form, they inspect the car and double check the numbers.... Job done... 5 Mins job .... Well 65min if you count lining up lol  ..... Although this is if you change to the same Cubes... any major increase will prob need a mod plate, but they probably wouldnt pick it up anyway
