Hey guys and girls,

I got a flat the other day as you can see by the pics it was a nasty split. Was on a dead flat dead smooth piece of road but was a bloody hot day. Anyway....

I live in the bush and only have one tyre shop so can't really shop around. They were trying to sell me Maxxis something?? for $360 each (20 x 35 x 245) and i thought that seemed a bit steep.

They made another call and got a Sumitomo not sure what model for $260 each. Seemed quite good and it's a brand i've heard before.

There are no corners or rain here so i don't need anything fancy....just something that rolls around and gives good wear.

Are they any good?

singlecampushrod can tell you how shit his sumitomos were, they delaminated on him.

send tempe tyres and email or ring them and get them to courier soem kumho KU31's out to you, less then $300 a tyre and i have never had a problem with them, i use them on all my cars when due for tyres

I can vouch for Kumho KU31's, had a set on my ute and they had the best grip but wear pretty fast due to camber. They are very quiet on the road and have stiff sidewalls I love them.

Kumho it is then. Another thing too....i will be up for putting another 2 on soon as they were getting a bit bald anyway and was thinking of having a staggerd fitment with 245 on the front nd 265 on the rear.

My car is lowered....would 265 scrub? Or do i need to roll the guards?

If they don't scrub can i go wider? I loooove the look of big fats on the back!!

And Toey....I see you are in Cobar mate....not too far away. I teach school of the air and head up that way visiting kids.

yeah not too far by country peoples standards. how often you come out this way?? ill be heading threw hay early january on way to melbourne. 4 trip there in 12 months :(

as for the staggered tyres it would really depend on the rim offset. if you took a rim off and got the exact offset of the rim (unless you already know it) and spoke to the wheel king or tempe tyres, or and big place that does pleanty of modified cars they should know what will and wont fit.

2 or 3 years back the Maxxis did very well in a tyre test in either Wheels or Motor magazine (I can't remember which), however I have never tried them.

The Kuhmos I have tried and whilst I am very happy with the grip levels in wet and dry 2 of the 4 tyres delaminated within 10000k's. The other 2 tyres are still going but are due for replacement soon and have done 20000k's. Not sure yet if I will give them another go.

not much wrong with my Mr's sumi's, they help her run 12.8's in an unopened ls1 lol :)

I bought a pair of Sumitomo's for the front of my V6 VT , they are just the standard 205/60/16 . The only thing i don't like about them is that the car isn't good it a straight line , wasn't a problem with the stuffed old tyres . Apart from that they are ok , stop and turn ok but the car wanders a little .

Ive been putting 255 50 16 sumi's on the rear of my vette for years, good tires in my experiences with them, exceptionally good in the wet too.
id vote for em!:)

I've got sumi 235/40/18's all round on mine....they seem to have good grip and wear is as even as you'll get it. My main gripe with them is they tend to be a noisy tire at times, but because they handle well enough i put up with it.

I wont fit maxxis to my ve again, both front tyres had bubbles on the inside and were seperating. For the rears i just cant go past the $150 cheapies ive never had a problem with them,245/45/18

i had the sumitomo htr 200 tyres on a vt v8 and got 5000kms out of a set of four.

the backs where down to the treads on both rear and the front had probley 1000kms left in them but had camber issues so i diced them aswell.

i found them a very fast wearing tyre being silica and that i used to do everyday 110km highway driving.

i would use them again but being a lowered v8 and highway use they didnt last me very long

i only ever had one issue with them it rained after it hadnt rained in ages and they let go( at aprox 40kms an hour) and i went sideways down the road for a little ride not sure if it was oil other than that had no problems.

I have sumitomos in 235/35/19 and theyre not too bad... Don't seem to grip fantastically in the wet, and theyre on the front... Best tyre ive used so far for the price are Accelera Phis... came 3rd out of about 10 tyres, names being pirelli, bridgestone, falken, goodyear etc in wheels mag a couple years back, and for way under 300 a tyre, pretty good value...

Hi sld86,

What do you mean by "were seperating" ?

I believe all new E2 HSV's are factory fitted with Sumitomo's now instead of the Bridgestones as they were previously.
