Hi guys,
I'm new to this LS1 stuff but since grenading my old 383, I have the opportunity of replacing it with the LS1. But I have a few questions:
Are the physical dimensions the same; ie length, width, weight etc?
Will my stroker crank fit in?
Will my roller rockers fit?
Will my flex plate fit?
Does any one do a front engine plate?
My old engine made about 420HP and I ran 7.0 @ 100 at our local track (1/8th mile). What could I expect with a standard LS1 and then with some easy mods?

Are the physical dimensions the same; ie length, width, weight etc? No, No and No
Will my stroker crank fit in? No
Will my roller rockers fit? No
Will my flex plate fit? I don't think so
Does any one do a front engine plate? yes Skinnykid in the States

AFAIK this is the answer

Thanks allmtr,
Ive just loked at some photos of an LS1 into LC on this site, and there looks to be more room from the heads to the chassis rails. So i am assuming it is narrower.(YAY!)
I will assume it is lighter due to having alloy heads (I think), so it is only the length I can't work out. With powerglide in same position in car, will I have to move the tabs for the engine plate or just make a small spacer?

Maybe PM SVNLTR on here he has an engine plate setup on his car. There are a few pics in his my ride thread, not a torana but could be of help.
Goodluck with it though

We are installing a 445ci LS7 in a LJ GTR up here. There is a build thread in the forum.

Thanks for the replies. I have been offerred the LS1 for the transplant for the "right price" so with my budget it allows me to build headers and maybe a sump if needed and maybe aftermarket ECU.

Aftermarket ECU is not necessary. The tuning ability we have with the custom LS1 operating systems is all you would ever need.

Too true. Stick with the retuned factory system and spend your $$$ elsewhere.

I took these pics a couple of years ago at the Tin Top Titles @ Willowbank. Stock LS1 (obviously with stall, diff gears, exhaust, tune), and was running 11's. It looked like a prety tight conversion, in some areas. But they had done a great job with it.

Thanks for the pics. While it does look tight, it can't be any worse than the old engine (I hope). All that work is already done so hopefully it's just drop it in and make it run!
