Firstly I'd like to thank Steve from Mainlube for his advice and tips on how to "service" my car. It was the beast's first service (8750 Kms) and my first service ever too!

So i bought 2L (of the concentrated flushing stuff ) and a FilterMAG from steve, then headed off to auto 1 and picked up 2 x 5L Castrol Sports Edge 10W - 60, 5L Cheap Oil, and a Filter. Z160 ( For the Gen III 5.7L :flipoff: and only found out later.)

Once i'd flushed out the oil and removed the old oil filter i tried to fit on the new oil filter and it wouldn't fit no matter how much i tried. Pulled out the digital calipers and the the size difference between the old and the new was 1mm. So rushed down to auto 1 ( Sunday afternoon ) and they were closed. It was 4:20pm :soap:

Next stop K-mart and they did'nt have the right one either. Ended up leaving the car on stands with a rag in place of the oil filter.

Ended up buy an ACDelco from holden monday afternoon and am now very pleased with the car. Feels like the car is alot more responsive and has a deeper tune.

Was a great experience, wasn't too hard and the best part is i actually enjoyed it.

Would just like to know is flushing the motor everytime you change the oil necessary? I've heard it could do more harm then good by prematurely wearing out seals.

Oh and what's everyone's opinion on the FilterMAG?

Wouldnt think it would need flush with under 10k on the clock, If you do it regullary its not needed IMO.

I wouldn't flush it every time.

Z160 does fit Gen 4 L76 and L98 in VZ's, just not VE's.

nice work ! :)

IMO i think the filter mag must be a bit of crap it probably just pulls the already trapped and filtered filings to the bottom of the filter,

none the less it cant be a bad thing,

Tom

FilterMag clamps on the side of the filter (not bottom)

We have Filtergrams from the tailing's of metal that the FilterMag has attracted from the oil flow and found 50% were metal particles under 50 micron.

Your filter is a full flow 25 micron nominal being a paper element.

Nominal filters can "wriggle" 2 times their filter rating through.

So they work and reduce wear, when fitted to the Maritimo race boats we noticed a reduction in wear.

If you plain on keeping the vehicle for a while, flushing is always a proactive maintenance move.

Again, we have seen the evidence in the Filtergrams of flushing oil, it shows many many different debris that are not welcome in your oil apart from the carryover from the old oil contaminating and degradating the new oil a little even before you drive round the first corner.

You will notice after a flush you new oil stays cleaner longer :)

Cheers

Steve
