View Full Version : Holden Epica
chook

Had the big misfortune the other day of getting a newish Holden Epica Hire car. Let's just say it was the biggest piece of crap I have ever driven in my whole life. I was supposed to drive it from Sydney to Canberra and back but took it back after 15 mins. How on earth can Holden put their badge on this piece of Korean rubbish. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Incedently the replacement was an FG XR6, not bad for a stocko, better than the SV6 I had the other day I think!! but the Epica :spew::spew:

I know exactly what you mean. We drove one from Cairns to Port Douglas and back. Anyone that knows the route knows the long sweeping roundabouts near the airport. The suspension/chassis dynamics are truely atrocious.
Holden marketing - Epica = an epic car.
My experience - Epica = epic fail! :vpo:
For the record I wouldn't blame the country of manufacture for the cars's performance. The GM DAT Korean factory is one of the world's most advanced GM plants - far, far superior to Adelaide's Elizabeth factory for example. Design, engineering, sourcing of parts - these all determine the 'end product'.

Epica is designed to compete for Camry buyers.
Pretty much clearly explains the end product to me. Wont ever appeal to an enthusiust.

Have to agree, we had a Diesel Epica while we waited for the Tourer to arrive, cloked up around 400km on it over 2 weeks, not the most comfortable thing around but fule usage was good, had plenty of gadget type things inside to, we had the top of the range model, still I wouldnt buy one :)

Actually... drove one across Victoria, up through the Wimmera for work. Didn't mind it!
There ya go... horses for courses
I tried the petrol one about a year ago. It only took 200m of driving for me to go what a piece of crap.
Its pretty bad when you make a Camry more appealing.

I had a turbo diesel one for work a while ago.
As long as you have the ability to separate what would appeal to an enthusiust to what would appeal to someone that just wants a car, they start to make a bit more sense.
If you can't separate the two, they will forever be just "a piece of crap" to that section of the market.

Sounds like a set of springs, and a tune for the diesel controller would make this a much nicer car, what you think Davo? Surely better than a Camry being a Turbo Diesel :)

I believe you just told the whole forum that you don't have the ability to separate an enthusiust owner from a non-enthusiust owner Tuna...

Being in the Hire car game, the Epicas are the worst car we have and no one wants to drive them, and funnily enough most are getting wholesaled well before their time.
The camrys are the most reliable and arent that bad, but their exhaust note is terrible.

No actually Davo I was trying to say - a set of springs will make it roll less, and a diesel tune will make it go better. The only Epica 'enthusiast' I have ever seen on this forum Davo is you when you were talking about high speed street racing an Epica diesel company car against a VT V6 or similar

There's a big difference between saying a turbo diesel 2.0 "gets along ok", and calling same car a "performance" car, like you bait at.
Still trying to get mileage with this old one Tuna? You need some new material.

Davo when it comes to comic relief, you are the gift that keeps on giving :)
I cant believe you are belittling a Holden on a Holden forum though, the Top Poster crown (inherited from other great forum luminaries) carries with it some serious internet responsibility, and you sir are not taking it seriously enough. Its serious business you know
Lets talk some more about 'sporting up' cars

Sorry Mr Tuna, are you continuing to make fun of the many members of this forum that had good comments to say about the same driveline in the Cruze thread?
Jeez, sometimes you just push things too far...:slap:

I merely suggested a change of springs and tune to make Epica more acceptable to drive is all ('sporting up' as you call it - some folks actually fo it to Commodores as well, go figure, bastards, get their VIN report it to Holden)
Sorry Davo wont do it again, as you are a very important forum Top Poster I respect your decision on the matter

Sh!t, he's going to pull his head in!
PS: Epica isn't a car people modify like Commodore, which would be what I've been saying all along!

Cmon Seldo you are still here...which 'good' contributors have moved on other than Voodoo, Pagey etc.
Top Poster MUST be allowed to have his say, even if its bagging the Holden Epica - which is (as said at the start of the thread) only a tune and a set of springs away from being half ok :)

But surely you and Davo could kiss and make up and add something constructive to the commentary. It's bad enough that our local press is full of shite about "schoolies" and their stupid antics, but now it's infiltrated to here too...;)
And seriously - when was the last time you posted something of substance such as we used to enjoy a couple of years ago? C'mon - you can do better. :)

Its a fair safe bet to say that most of the good technical contributors 'havent' moved on because Davo and I have the odd keyboard joust. Everyone is here, but with the last Commodore being designed five years ago its also a safe bet that if you use the 'Search' function its already been done and covered. If and when there is a VF obviously the pace of development will improve and there will be more 'new' things to post, not just posting for the sake of it.
The majority of those (I know of) that have previously invested development time and budgets into VT - VE range are currently working on other projects and platforms to not just sustain but grow their business. Obviously an ageing platform, cancelled export programs, and slashed local production has made the business case less feasible for developing Commodore product - and Im not talking about the corner shop that puts their own sticker on a cam and sells it as a secret grind, but rather those that have invested getting towards a million dollars in various projects. Their 'ripple' effect (or lack of) down the chain eventually reaches everyones screen. Theres the other sides perspective for you Seldo.
Either that or Davo and I could join forces and form an Internet Super Team
Complete with our own 'sported up' Epica

Planetdavo ... I'll leave Street Tuna to fix up the handling and the performance ... mean while ... I'm going to get to work on a clutch pedal mod for the Epica. Any suggestions so I don't "void the warranty"?????

C'mon seldo, lighten up. A bit of light hearted banter between two people that have not made it personal and ugly is, to most people, occassionally amusing, and better to read than "wat mods can u doo 2 me vp commodoor rockit fully sik hectic beast man i jus luv it it fooly pulls tha chix dude like u woodnt beleeve man"...:lmao:
People change and move on, just like people change jobs and people change friends. Part of life's natural cycle.

So every single 6M VE will be recalled to have the repair done?

Keep this topic out of this thread. It's been well discussed in it's proper thread. You have only brought it up here because you still have a bone to pick about the other correct thread for it.
