and subscribe to the ones that im interested in
then i get an email to say some one has aded or replied to that post
put from the speed that you guys answer questions from new posts

When I'm on, I just click the "New Posts" link on the bar up to top, it shows all threads with new posts, and I just look through the ones I'm interested it. (Not quite what your after though...)

I don't like subscriptions as I get enough email traffic as it is!

I just click new posts and scan through what I want to read. Yes sometimes this can be a lot if I have not had a look for a few days. But what else am I supposed to do at work?

One trick I learnt early was actually not to have LS1 as your homepage as it will log when you visit. If you have it as your homepage, when you go to view new posts it will say you were here 2 minutes ago and thus give you 2 posts maybe!!!
I have it set in my favourites and immediately hit new posts or todays posts when I visit.

I've written a PERL script that downloads every post made on the forums and archives them on my local server. Then I run a Bayesian filter across the posts looking for common, interesting or offensive posts that ether I may be interested in or may be in need of moderation. Included in the filter is my own "Image Recognition" filter for images that may breach the forum rules. Anything that trips the filters is sent to my mobile via an SMS gateway with a brief description of why the filter tripped. Then I can check the posts as needed.........

OK, maybe not.

I just hit the "Today's Posts" link under "Quick Links" to show me all the recent posts. Because I look after the work proxy servers, I need to keep an eye on how the Internet is responding. So I leave a browser logged in to the forum all the time as a check.

If you're logged in all day do you have to reauthenticate periodically like everyone else or is that a mod's privelege?

cheers,

Gav

No, it's not a Mod privilege. When signing in, you need to "check" the "Remember me" box to keep you logged in. If you do this, then your credentials will remain valid.

i just hit the "new posts" button and scan through them looking for subject titles i'm interested in and want to look at...

work my way through 8 - 10 pages of updated threads... then when i'm done i hit new posts again, check to see if any i've posted in have had an update...

not having the page as your home page like motomk has said will mean that your new posts will always be the ones since your last visit...

I haven't had to log in from home or re-authenticate for yonks! As Simon says, just tick the Remember Me box when you log in, but not on a shared computer because if you forget to log off someone else can pretend they're you!
