View Full Version : Next SE QLD Run

Due to the success of another great cruise a couple of weeks ago Northy and I decided to start planning the next one.
The difference in this one will be that it will be roughly 1000 k's and will be an overnighter. Date has not been confirmed but will be Feb.
Due to the fact that it will be overnight and we will need to organise accomodation, we will be limiting the cars going. At this stage I will advise it will be 15 cars with a first in paid, best dressed. If we can arrange further accomodation we will increase it but I still would like to keep the maximum at 20.
At this stage the route i have nutted out includes most of the nicest driving roads in SE QLD and Northern NSW. Without finite details, the route goes something like this.
Mudgeeraba - Natural Bridge - Murwillumbah - Kyogle - Casino - Grafton - Gibraltar National Park - Tenterfield - Stanthorpe - Legume - Woodenbong - Mt Lindesay - Maroon - Boonah - Fassifern - Glengallan - Fordsdale and Gatton. Haven't quite worked out the final home part. had thought of Esk but we have done that a number of times. I had thought maybe Stanthorpe or Tenterfield for the stop overnight.
Those interested please keep an eye on the thread and if you would like to make comments or suggestions please do.
I know of 3 cars as a definitie already so please when I post details of payment for accomodation please jump in straight away if you wish to come.
look forward to seeing the usual suspects out again

Stanthorpe! thats where I live!
Wish my car was on the road to join in on the cruise though :(
I know the managers of a few of the accomodation owners here, and i can get u some prices.
I would strongly suggest High street motor Inn, have awesome food, and accomodation is pretty cheap. If you would like i can have a chat to the manager?
Let me know if your interested!
Cheers,
Dan

That would be great mate, let me know any details. However, I'm not sure if that will be the stop for the night. Obviously we will be very interested though. Actually, I've just had another look at the route and I reckon Stanthorpe will be smack bang in the middle. Let me know anything.
Mark
Yeah mate that's cool. This is more of a 'make people aware' thread. It's very hard to confirm I agree.
Possible dates at this stage will be 6/7 Feb or 20/21 Feb

Great idea to do an overnighter.
That is one hell of a special run you have evolved. Great work.
Depending on timings I will be there...

What a way to see if the Tru Trac added to the luxo is all its cracked up to be. I am looking toward this cruise seriously. Just hope it's not too hot weather wise.
Same with you Arrif, will be good to hear the feedback on 4.11 diff gears in a VE.
I'm currently running 3.4 as a loaner, but hell its sluggish compared to the launch with the 3.7s I normally have.

All I was getting at is that after this one is done, we will have to organise another run somewhere else and unless people want me to do it again, how about you orgainse a northern run to include that.

Yes I will have to get cracking on this now it's the new year.
No real changes at this stage. The plan is still to be the 20/21 Feb.

I'm not quite sure how to finish it off. The drive after Gatton was only an afterthought. We could finish at Gatton and then make our own ways home.

Awesomme Adam
I have the weekend locked and loaded into my calendar.
Whoot, this one will be good. I haven't done that loop in entirety but the roads, sights and sounds of individual runs I've done across various elements of that path are nothing short of awesomme. There are oh so many things to see and do along the way but in a two dayer not possible to fit the side track sights and activities in.
The countryside should be simply supurb and at its finest showing with the recent rains across the SEQ and Northern NSW areas.
Bring it awwn!!!

Mate regardless of if I get to go or not; I must congratulate you on the evolution of THE best SEQ cruise route I have seen, this includes the bucketload of mine both long and short that have been run and done.
As you know Adam, almost every Saturday and/or Sunday across the past three years I have been doing cruises throughout SEQ and Northern NSW - either with the various clubs I'm in, or on my own, or with a few special mates. 600k day runs were common for me, but the one you have devised here is tops...
Good job dude.

14-01-2010, 01:23 PM
Not too sure but thinking Tenterfield might be easier in an effort to break up the trip a little more. Will let you know.
Are people happy to stay in Tenterfield. Would you prefer Stanthorpe.
This is the official list post of this trip.
Date: 27/28 Feb 2009
Participants - 15 Cars (if this is filled in a day I will make it 20. Too many more and it is too hard to manage for such a long trip.)
Trip: See Map above
Meeting: BP Yatala Service Centre.
Time to be confirmed. There will also be another meet point at Mudgeereeba for any of the coasters.
Cost For Accom: At this stage I would be working on 75-90/person. But dont quote me. I will find out soon enough. I request a 10 deposit as soon as accom is booked.
The breakdown would be this based on the current map.
First day. Yatala to Tenterfield - 521km
Second day tenterfield to gatton is 412 so add whatever you need to get back to Brissie or wherever else you need to run.
If this is too much make suggestions to change it. I have essentially tried to get the best driving roads in SE Qld in one hit.

I take it that is where you want to stay?
That's fine with me. I didn't really want to make a definite on a hotel until I had an exact number but if others are happy I will ring them tomorrow and do a tentative. I will then asking for the deposit.
The last pricing I had this afternoon was
Single room (single bed) $49.00/n
Twin room (2 x single Beds) $39.00/n
Double room (double bed) $69.00/n
Double room (queen bed) $79.00/n
Family rooms are also available if guest want to share for Two/three or Four
guests Room price $99.00 to $129.00/n
I will sent a room allocation sheet for room numbers
A free light breakfast will be available and a hot breakfast can be arranged
for $10.00/head
from the Tally Ho hotel.
I am happy to book at the Bowls Club. It looks pretty good.
Can people start giving me an indication of family/friends coming so we can organise that part.

Okays Adam, I'm now all sorted. I'm a definate goer and in for the run!!!!!
As I said earlier I rekken Tenterfield is a way better stopover point anyways.
I will need a room to myself. $$ required and how big or small it is ain't important. Just that Sleep Apnoea is not room share friendfly LOL.
:)
Eeeeehha, I'm headin on the offshore fishin charter out of Southport tomorra. Danged I have to be up at 4am in order to get there and sorted for departure. Man I have been looking forward to doing this for a whilse, rekken I will do a few more across 2010. I've found a boat that is a 60 foot long and as wide as other charter boats are in length, whoot its a stable cat with enough deck space to be a ballroom or car park, complete twin 700 hp deisel engines... I'm oh so excited. If I actually catch fish it will just be a bonus.
I have spent today prepping my 65 pound braid Shimano Tyrnos 30 Overhead thumper gear and a spin set and working a game plan. I like to be a tad independent, they do supply all the fishin gear and bait ya need as a matter of course.

I've plugged a fishin event into Bris Commodores for May 2010 sometime mate. C'mon slackers lets do it. I reken there would be oh so many comps and tall stories to sort on the day like that.
I'm out doing stuff most weekends. In the main it's all there on BCCC within the Events section, who goes and who doesn't I really don't care; its just stuff that I am undertaking anyways.

Make it a go for Grafton for lunch. We will probably be there at 12:30 - 1:00pm on whichever clock.
At this stage with a finish in Grafton, the trip is about 933km. The first day is about 310 to Grafton and 520 to Tenterfield. So I will try and find somewhere 'nice' to stop before Grafton for a bit of a stretch and maybe some photos

I'm going, even if its on my own. I actually rekken 1-5 cars is good, I do it most times and love the fleibility of small numbers. I've never piked out on a cruise before (once I have put it in my diary), why would I start now? Not sure what the "lack of commitment stuff" is about. I've indicated in the thread that I need a single room regardless of cost - that's cement by my standards.
Its easy to miss a post or two.
My car does need some sorst, engine mount, drive shaft and A6 fixing before the trip though - bloody offs and skidpan. Should be sorted next week if all goes to plan.

Other than yellow and white fonts. Seems simple as to name suggestion to me.
As indicated, the route has elements that I have not traversed, or those that are memories of my younger days, so I will be driving those roads and highways on that weekend, regardless.

Simply because I had heard from them in the last few days. Haven't heard from you for a while about the cruise hence 'no yellow'

Ahh well, after that lot it seems I will be running alone.
No probs Adam, enjoy the group stuff. Maybe I will catch up at some scenic point along the way.
Confirm me as white - not running with the group.

Oh well its the way it is when it goes on. I'm not going off my cracker nor cranky at all - be assured. I made it clear that I was heading off on the run with the LS1 dudes and was extactic to convey what my requirements were - as per very early post.
As a rewind I'm just saying that I will do the same run at a different pace, but not under the PM Rule (that I did not sight nor informed of). My word is my bond, I suppose there is nothin like being a free spirit which creates kids are kids I suppose.
Hell, I still haven't sighted this "PM me to confirm" thingy at all. Its probably within the previous posts somewhere but I am not on here a lot and as such just go to the last few posts, simple as that.
Wouldn't it have been just as easy to multi-post a pm to the few that raised interest asking them to confirm???? I dunno how a PM is seemingly a stronger commitment than a post (as they are both just keyboard actions), but I suppose it must be.
For many, I do understand that a 1,000 odd kilometre cruise across two days is a pretty big thing to commit to.
Its all sorted now anyways.

I didn't ask people to PM as a comitment to coming. I had made a comment of asking people to PM me about what they wanted room wise. You know, those that may want a room to contain their wife or wife and kids as well.
Once again, I am having to explain myself to you. If you go back through the posts, the last one you made was nearly a month ago. I simply knew of some people who were defs and others that I hadn't heard from since their original 'yes'. I have made a number of post in the last week to try and get people to just confirm or deny and still nothing.
That is why I highlighted those in yellow to say they were coming. It was nothing more.
If you choose to not run with us lot, I understand.

I really still want to run this cruise this weekend but another has had to pull out due to mechanical issues.
So at this point in time, the list is small. I am very prepared to run it at 5 cars but less I suggest we postpone to a later date

and
hopefully Pete if he changes his mind.
Unfortunately Ash(zorak) has work comittments the night before and may not be able to make it. This means at worst, it becomes 4 cars and I am not sure if everybody is that keen.
What do you think? I will leave it till Thursday and make a call

Adam pushing my guy to finish the car, i am confident it will be ok to go.
IF NOT, would serverly then limit the cruise by bringing numbers further down????????????
I would re schedule as the numbers are soft. If you decide to still run, i am still willing.
cheers

Guys
Due to a number of unavoidable mechanical issues, and work comittments etc, a number have had to say No to this weekend.
There are a few of us still interested to get out and do something so I have decided to run kind of the first half of the cruise.
So we will meet at BP yatala at 8:30 for 9 departure.
We will be heading to Mudgeeraba first then.... here, look at the link
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Mudgeeraba+QLD,+Australia&daddr=Pindari+Hills+QLD,+Australia+to:Natural+Brid ge+QLD,+Australia+to:Dum+Dum+QLD,+Australia+to:Kil gra+QLD,+Australia+to:Cougal+QLD,+Australia&hl=en&geocode=FUCPU_4dWiokCSn3_e5W9xyRazFcvG7B2eXVng%3BF SoWU_4diXAiCSn7pMD2ax6RazHAaZoUt3uE3g%3BFWy7Uf4dYh 0iCSnrDd05FueQazGh5Uq--JM6bg%3BFQ7WTv4dO7EjCSlvQU_Qeu6QazFVZDI34PG8iQ%3BF UdJTP4dHDceCSm12WDfMLCQazGTtt59wUN9yQ%3BFcYhT_4ddC keCSmxmpJ-V8iQazFfUetZz6O4Dw&mra=ls&sll=-28.348425,153.01269&sspn=0.765049,1.520233&ie=UTF8&ll=-28.207609,153.023071&spn=0.770898,1.520233&z=10
You will notice it finishes at Cougal. This is the Lions Road and continues over the border up to Innisplain. We will then head to Beaudesert and then home. Nothing major, nothing to spirited, just a scenic run this time
