Do the V8 supercars have I.R.S "Independant rear end" or Live axle??
Cos depending on the answer either one of them are gonna be handing over some cash to one or the other..... thats how funny its got :lmao:

There live axle, more complex then road going cars though as they can actually dial in camber etc.
And they are located with a watts linkage unlike a panhard bar commodores used pre irs
Commentary on todays race mentioned the watts linkage used came loose in one car, and the fact that they used a spool dif (both wheels turn the same at the rear regardless) meant that turn in was better from the rear over bumps in corners (one tyre off the ground, other doing the traction).

The V8 Supercars website has a technical section with all the detail other have discussed above and that you are after to settle your bet.
Via the tab 'about V8s', click the tab 'tech talk' and then choose the car whose technical specifications you want to know about, ie;
VE Commodore: http://www.v8supercars.com.au/content/attachments/techtalk/2009_season/holden_commodore_ve/files/23686/Holden%20Commodore%20VE%20Vehicle%20Specifications .pdf
Or FG Falcon: http://www.v8supercars.com.au/content/attachments/techtalk/2009_season/ford_falcon_fg_/files/23685/Ford%20Falcon%20FG%20Vehicle%20Specifications.pdf
The site also has the entire technical regs if you really want to troll into it; http://www.v8supercars.com.au/content/attachments/extranet/2009_season/operations_manual_division_c/files/30618/2009%20Div%20C%20%20_Clean%20Copy_%20FIA%20APPROVE D%20update%202%20.pdf

Here is a picture I snapped at the HSV open day recently. Live rear end, adjustable camber, watts linkage adjustable for height (roll centre), fancy roll bar adjustable too. Spool diff that locks both wheels.

As you can see, like the rest of the car, its very relevant to the road going versions. :lmao:
Cheers :)

'Stooopid' question time... Is a Ford 9" diff in a V8 S/C an actual Ford unit or is it (as I suspect it is) a diff based on the design of a diff originally designed and manufactured by Ford? Essentially is there all manner of manufacturer's that have 'Ford 9" Diffs' in their catalogue that have nothing to do with Ford other than their DNA?

the 9 inch in a v8 supercar is not made by ford , has not been made by ford for a very long time ........it just has some ford DNA .and it was a truck diff !
