Total tools have a panasonic deal going at the moment, You get the new all black impacter and a normal drill for $749, with 3 battery's, (bat worth 250 alone)
also has 3.5ah battery's which last days on a charge
I will never buy anything other than panasonic, As a shop fitter who uses a impactor everyday for 12hr a day, nothing has lasted even close to the panasonic,
As for others makita is ok, but i would stay away from the rest,

Hitachi all the way mate. Back in the day when I was working on planes the ol' 12V drill copped a workout daily. Just look after the batteries and she'll go for years. I still give mine the monthy battery charge but haven't had the need to use it for over a year now :(
Plus they look awesome
