Ok, finally dumped the old iPhone
Purchased a new HTC HD2 (available in Australia about Feb/Mar next year, but on sale now in the UK which is where this one is from).
A few specs:
Basic Specs
Size - 120.5 x 67 x 11 mm
Weight - 157 grams
Screen - 800x480 resolution, 4.3-inches, TFT Capacitive Touchscreen,
Memory - ROM: 512 MB
- RAM: 488 MB
RF Frequencies - GSM 850
- GSM 900
- GSM 1800
- GSM 1900
- UMTS 900
- UMTS 2100
Standby Time - Up to 390 hrs
Talk Time - Up to 5 hrs 40 mins
Advanced Specs
Camera - 5.0 Mega-Pixel, Auto-focus, Dual LED Flash
- Secondary Video Camera
External Memory - upto 64GB micro SD TransFlash (SD 2.0 Compatible)
MP3 Player - Yes
FM Radio - Yes
So my thoughts on why this phone is better than the iPhone it has replaced:
bigger screen and better resolution
audio quality - richer and deeper quality
easier to type on
better 3G reception
Wireless N
thinner and lighter to carry than the iPhone
better battery life
removable media up to 64GB per card
1GHz cpu - yep in a phone (wasnt that long ago I bought a 1Ghz Athlon surely ;) )
better connectivity between machines - I work on 5 PCs a day for various bits and pieces - so far it has been linked to Windows XP, 7 and Ubuntu and had files dragged and dropped to it (for me that is important)
cheap @ $950AU
downsides from iphone:
lost all my apps that I was used to
push email from mobileme - has to manually sync
so far loving it ... still getting used to it, but it offers so much more

I have the 1st HD (blackstone) and love it.
I have modded the crap out ot and use push email no worries.
It sucks that iphone gets soo many apps compared to the htc/windows style.
But i love mine, ebery always thinks its an iphone... and i'm happy to correct them!
I havent seen the new HD but i will be checking it out!
I guess u are familair with xda developers forum?
Its the lifeblood of these phones!!

yep, familiar with the XDA forums :) - interestingly, one of the modders there, says he is keeping his HD2 stock (no cooking) as he believes that HTC have nailed this phone :) - big call and time will tell.

well i just installed miri's latest ROM with Radio 2.06.50.04. and it seems to be working fine.
so glad i ditched the iphone with stupid itunes, the HTC HD2 screen just smashes the iphone. also it's fun mucking around and flashing cooked Rom's and cab files.
highly recommend this phone also i am no expert but customizing it is pretty easy.

I'm a big fan of Miri's ROMs ... i had dutty's but he doesn't actually have a HD2 (uses his cousins) so his ROMs I have had a few issues with.
I expect the Windows mobile 7 betas will hit XDA march/april - this phone has all the specs for WM7 and will be an absolute corker.

Seems like a great phone, but no GPS? I didn't realize how much I'd actually use it until I had it on the iPhone...not sure :)I'd want another phone without it now.

it has GPS, and it actually works a lot better than my iPhone GPS did.

I have the HTC touch HD. Not a big fan. It seam slow to repond more often then not. I'm holding out for the Nexus One from Google. Which is a HTC. I like the look of Android for an operating system. I believe that Voda will have them when reasled here. The rest of the world already have it!!!

Reportedly, it bricks itself after a couple months. Nothing to do with WinMo, but HTC Sense UI.
Anyhow, you should have waited for the HTC Supersonic. Exactly the same specs, except it will have an OLED screen and the Android 2.1 OS.

Thanks Kurt. Little disappointed to see they the Nexus one doesnt support Exchange Calendars. No-one is going to take this up as a business phone if you cant sync your calendar through Exchange.

Anything tech / audio / video etc, I screw up the letterbox catalogues for the next 2 years to ease my pain.
Just curious, as one of the guys at work bought one a couple of days ago and I was admiring it over lunch. Really great visual interface, phone gui looked a bit ordinary to me comaperd to the iPhone i reckon ( maybe that was his setup, if there is a setup ( i need reading glasses now )) He uses a work sim like me with no Internet access and there still seems to be plenty to desire despite that.
He had a couple of gripes like Windows apps staying open rather than closing... a bit like the Dopod apps hogging RAM. Apparently actice sync was a pain. I'm sure he'll work it out.
Great looking peice of kit though.

Active sync in XP is crap ... Mobile Device under Windows 7 is excellent. It doesnt need to close apps really - I usually have about 10 things running on mine at the same time, with no real slow down. (this is with a custom ROM - but the standard ROM was pretty good) - If he is with Telstra, it may be a little buggy as there are issues with the 1.49 base ROM used by Telstra (unless they tweak it)

Only just download wm65 for my work phone.
I run a Samsung Omnia i900 (and an iphone), but have always run 6.1 on it.
Just tried a few roms.
I've settled with steff195's.
http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general-omnia-rom-discussion/297082/samsung-omnia-6-5-x-custom-roms-by-steff195/
I love the hexagon theme on it.

Personally I still prefer the iphone.
Really hoping WM65 can bring me some more speed and win me back
