View Full Version : New BMW X5m
I saw this car on the latest top gear and thought it was kinda cool..
I had a look and found pics of the motor..
Pretty crazy engineering by our German friends..

My wife drives a turbo diesel X5 ... the thing is so well engineered and drives so well you would not know it's a diesel. Has incredible pulling power and still manages to get 8 lph. There is a big difference between the sort of grunt "agricultural" power that we see in here ... and the refined power of M's and AMG's. Still ... I can afford to drive a holden that is of similar power ... will never get one of these ... and to be honest ... I don't think they would be nearly as much fun.

What a fantastic design for an exhaust/turbo setup on a dual plane crank V8!
Makes perfect sense. swap the location of the exhaust and intakes and you can have all exhaust outlets close together, and feed whichever one you want to whatever turbo. This is the way to get those exhaust pulses spaced perfectly apart!
I reckon that has something to do with that torque figure.

That engine is an amazing piece of engineering! Check out the size of the front rotors on that X6M too... They certainly have all bases covered!!

A mate of mine has an x3 and for a diesel i was rather impressed with it, its got some up and go when you put your boot into it and yet quite and smooth and comfortable, i may have to mention to him that there is a new x5 out i think he should up grade to.

I work at a BMW dealer and all i can say is the X6M and X5M are wonderful cars to drive.
Instant torque and a lovely mellow note.
Even a standard X6 twin turbo v8 drives well (especially the special rear diff control they have) but this is just 100 times better.
They haven't just upped the boost to get the 100kw's extra either.
