Back in 2004 the mrs and i got a brand spanking new SXi Barina from (edited at OP's request).
Drive away price on the 2003 SXi was around the $21000 mark, but after 3-4hrs we had a deal, $18550 drive away.
On the day we felt like we had our selves a fairly good deal....or so we thought.
Fast forward to now.
Doing some home work on selling the Barina.
RedBook:
2003 Barina Sxi Auto $18990 RRP
2004 Barina Sxi Auto $16990 RRP
Rang RedBook and yep a $2000 price drop from the '03 to the '04 model.
Now, when we purchased the car we were told it was a 2003 Model.
Insured the car as a 2003 Model.
Even on the (edited) Servicing Invoice it states the car is a '03/HOLDEN/BARINA 3DR SXI 1.4L HATCH
But it ain't......
It was in fact built in 05/2004 making it a 2004 model.
So after doing all the Bull Shit haggling, getting near $2500 off the Drive Away price, why have we been ripped off BIG TIME by (edited)?!?!
Why were we told it was $21000 drive away on a $16990+ONC car?
Why would we pay $18550 on a car thats worth $16990+ORC?
The original contract has:
Sub Total $17515
REGO $595
Stamp $440
TOTAL $18550 Drive Away
The only way we can tell it is a 2004 model on the contract is in the VIN WOLOXCFO844XXXXXX
Rang (edit) "Nope cant help ya. Ring Holden" :flipoff:
Rang Holden "Nope cant help ya. Ring (edit)" :flipoff:
Will ring ACCC and Vcat asap.
I know there is not much we can do now but will see what ACCC and Vcat say......
BTW this car is for sale and will put up an ad in the For Sale section asap

I've been through VCAT.
Although I won my (non car related) case, you want to have PLENTY of spare time and PLENTY of good evidence to have any hope of winning. I can't see a few service invoices saying 2003 as been great evidence in VCAT, sorry to say mate, as you have to prove they did "wrong", not them prove they did "right". That info comes more from the service department's selection, or the information brought up by their DMS supplier, rather than the new car department or from Holden.
That VIN is definitely a 2004 model year.

What caused the price drop between the two models (different spec's ????) & is it really such a big deal when you amortise it over the 5 years of ownership......
Plenty of people would have been stoked to get an '04 plated car (instead of the previous year).

De-contenting. Drum rear brakes appeared, among other things, as the start of the Euro Holden price related profit slide started to occur, ultimately leading to Korean sourcing of most models.
What price can you get now trading in your 2004 Barina, rather than a 2003 Barina? That seems the important bit of info in this case, rather than a 5 year old purchase cost.

That's pretty bizarre the '04 being 2 grand less than the '03 in redbook, understand they may have downspecced, but most unusual problem. The price you paid was obviously in line with the '04 model at the time, so you might not be happy now, but you got what you paid for. So you got a Barina 5 years ago for $18.5K driveaway including your rego and stamp duty, redbook price is now $17K. $1.5K depreciation, really your rego and stamp duty was $1000, so $500 depreciation in 5 years, $100 a year or $2/ week - bargain of the century. We should all suffer such terrible depreciation.

Sorry Benny, I guess if the brain was engaged I would have realised that couldn't have been right. I think you got what you paid for at the time, but not the fantastic deal you thought. If the car was $16990 plus ORC, and you picked it up for $18,500 given ORC is rego, plus stamp duty plus dealer delivery, your $18500 DA is OK, just not the mega deal you thought you had. So 5 years on whats the difference in '04 to the '03 trade in/ private sale etc? The '04 would surely be higher?

Um, WRONG!
2003 or 2004 it dosent matter....
What matters is that we were told the car was around $21000 drive away being a 2003 model not the cheaper 2004.

I can see where your coming from Benny, I don't believe you will be able to do anything about it now, except not give the dealer your future business and let others know you are not happy with said dealer (which you have done with this thread). Hope you get a decent price for your Barina.........Dave.

Not taking sides here, but the prices are recommended retail prices and it is up to the buyer to be aware of the market.
The buyer is the one that ultimately makes the decision and should do the research and not rely on the salesman to quote the final price.
There have been many times where vehicles have been purchased for more than the quoted recommended retail price.
I understand your predicament but I think a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then ......Cheers John

Exactly. There's a guy trying to sell a Barina in the classifieds at the moment for a lot more than the Redbook recommended price guide.
Based on this thread, they shouldn't be trying to advertise it than more than it is really worth :)

Yep, thanks dave
Spot on there mustanger.
BUT it took me over 3 hrs to do the deal on this car.
One point we even walked out because he would not come down to $18500
only to be talked back inside to get the deal done.
Man they must have pissed themselves laughing when we left.......
High fives all round ya bastards :flipoff:

We have rectified the issue & the correct prices will show up by the end of the week on the website
Apologies for the inconveience

The Redbook
So with that, i was wrong and apologize to the said Dealership.
Paying $18550 all up for the MY04 $17999+ONC is not all that bad.
Will ask the Mods if they will edit the named Dealership from this Thread.
