Hi gang,

My transmission has been a little suspect of late and I was hoping for some ideas on what the problem might be.

The first thing I noticed is that the torque converter seems to be a bit "indecisive", it's like it will lock up, then unlock, and then decide to lock up again and so it goes on. The other day I put my foot into it from about 40kph accelerating up a hill, it dropped back to first, then when it went to second the gear change was really slow and the clutch seemed to engage for way too long.

I have also noticed that the shifts in power mode are no where near as stiff as they were. The car has an OTRCAI, sports exhaust and a chip, the chip made the car shift really hard in power mode before, but now the shifts are really spongy.

I last had the trans serviced about 3,000ks ago, but I was told then that the service had been overdue, and there was lots of crap in the pan - no metal though.

Any ideas? Please?

How's the fluid level?
Have you got a cooler on it?
I'd be getting it checked properly though, sounds like its on its way out!

Thanks for the advice guys.

Can't say I've checked the fluid level yet (duh!), I'll do it next time the motor's warm.
No, it doesn't have a cooler, but I don't tow anything with the car (except for my mountain bike rack :-))

Hopefully it won't be too much to fix, I'm pretty broke at the moment. I've been unemployed 6 months now and my car's really suffering because of it. I'd hate to have to fill the tranny with honny and flog the old girl off to some unsuspecting sucker.

Regardless of towing or not, they need a cooler on them. Heat is what kills these boxes and they're notoriously weak, even with a near stock motor in front of them.
