Was going to sell my Wh Grange to my an 03 Monaro, but just couldn't bring myself to do it, when i look at it, i can't let it go, so i thought it was time to change it up a little......

After falling short of a 10 sec pass i thought it was time to go down another road.
The cam only L98 ran a best of 11.04 @121.6 with 235/60/15's (320rwkw on 19's
Next time out ran 11.14 @121.6 with 255/60/15's (latest dyno 313rwkw on 20's
Both runs were 1.49 60fters
The 6k converter and 4.11 gears a big hand in moving this heavy lump.

I thought about doing fly cuts and raising comp with milled higgins heads to reach my goal.....but i think to move weight you need torque and loads of it.
So maybe a stroker down the track......

So i thought a Grange with 440+ cubes and a M6 would be awesome to drive.

So i start with the M6
Reco T56
NPC twin plate clutch
Ripshifter

Totally different car to drive now......
The cam i selected was to suit the big converter....all top end, so it's a bit docile down low.....4500 things really start moving through to 7300
But i love the way it pulls through high rpm..at 5k it pulls and pulls harder with more revs...
A big converter gives you that instant pull from any revs but doesn't have that extra pull at big rpm.......

110 k's in 5th gives 12.5L/100k's
118 k's in 6th gives 10.5L/100k's
Who would have thought a big cam like that could sit on 2000rpm in 6th gear and go to sleep.
110k's auto 13.5L/100k's which i thought was pretty good for what it was....

Overall i'm very happy with the convertion and dont think i will be going back to auto.... if the car runs .5 slower down the quarter....i wont care one bit :driving:
Hopefully i can get those extra cubes next year

What do you think a big stalled auto 313rwkw pulled when going M6.....
I will say the RVO box probably wasn't giving anything away.....i expected a bit higher......maybe i expect too much ;)

good to hear you're happy with the conversion mate.

sounds like you got some good manners at low RPM and then all kinds of fun when you give it some.

if you don't mind me asking, what sort of dollars (just rough ballpark) did you spend on the conversion?

In all honesty, it drove a treat.....was clocking 400+ k's a week for a few months and loved every minute of it....and no lockup :)
A big converter smooths a big cam right out.....i could cruise around under 3000rpm no probs.
The converter shop built mine and it was ordered to be tight.....

Hi-Torque performance down at labrador....yes bloody cheap.....and work is very good....... when you ring, tell Kent...Darren in the Grange sent you....he will look after you :goodjob: they will be back on the 6th.

you'll love that :)
looks identical to my converter... and i love it!!!

this manual business is interesting though... changing gears? sounds pretty out there!!!!!

glad you like the conversion Hellbent.
i'm not so sure on the specs of your car, but what camshaft are you running?

is it in the 240's???

Average duration @ 50 is just over 240
Average lift is about .630 Just a little bigger than the TK cam.

Had it a couple of years ago in a LS1 vt ss, the motor was pretty worn by the time i got in there and it died soon after... still managed 11.38 cam only.

I think its done pretty well to push the grange to low 11's

I knew the weight of both cars and this 6ltr in that old vt would have run 10.7-10.8 no Probs.

Last auto dyno 313rwkw M6 dyno 343rwkw.

Thought it might have cracked 350....
But as they say ....only numbers.

Between 5-7k in second gear...even the 850 a piece 255 conti's slip and grab.
The top end pull in a manual is stronger than auto....but the auto pulls the same from any point, totally different feel.

great thread here, good to read the differences between the boxes, very informative read mate

as for HI-TORQUE, i drove 2200kms from vic to take my car to them, very happy with their work, 3 years later im still touching PB's at the track and it wont die...i cannot speak highly enough of them

nice results! my 350rwkw guess wasnt to far off :) , it would be interesting to see the mph in the m6 compared to your big 6k converter just to compare the difference in topend.

4k for a conversion is a great price to..

The converter was designed to pull hard in the topend....but i dont think any converter can trap the same as a manual....maybe i'm wrong but i think the manual might pull a another couple mph.

Et willl be slower , thats a given......but mph just might gain a tad......and if it doesn't......i'll throw some gas at it hahaha
