just wondering i was looking at my headers under the hood and they are turning RED HOT
ive been told this can happen because
- to rich
- to lean
- timing issues
i did paint the headers with hi temp black paint and wondering wether its the paint heating up?
i shut the car off because i was scared that damage may be occuring

Just to clarify, was this on the road, or on a dyno?

in my garage
the IAC motor is faulty which is getting replaced tomorrow and the car idles at around 1600-1800rpm
so it was idling at that speed for about 2 mins and the headers went glow red
i wanted to take it for a drive to do some run in before i drive it to sydney on thursday but im to scared :(
cam is a 231/237 and i have red a car with long duration on the exhaust side can cause this aswell

When they glow that red it tends to be really lean or a wot run for like 15-30 seconds for argument sake-even then it needs to be a tad lean--
does it miss and carry on as it could want to run on the exhaust stroke due to the cam being installed wrong
Are all the pipes glowing or just a couple?
Just tossing some ideas out their for ya-

slight miss here and there but not constant
doesnt carry on or stumble at all
fires up perfectly without any hesitation
are you reffering to the cam being installed 180 degrees out?
all pipes are glowing red havent run it for longer than a couple mins

I can't answer the cam being right or out as i am not their or don't know what the install specs are--
1 good thing is that if all 8 pipes are glowing -well all 8 are firing and working so electrical issues are out of the question-
the miss here and their brings my guess of it being running lean as that's what happens
The new pumping efficiency of the cam is demanding more fuel and the car idling at 1600-1800 is not helping as maybe those ve cells are way out----

With the idle being so high due to the falty IAC i would geuss that the PCM is pulling timing to reduce the idle speed .

probably not your problem, but another cause of glowing extractors is blocked cats

this was another thing i thought of.......i dont think thats the case as they werent blocked before the conversion and i dont think that all of a sudden it would happen but hell you never know!
im going to try get it down to a workshop tomorrow for a dyno tune!
