Have you tried "youi"?

Their ads are annoying the heck out of me on tv ... I'd like to think they are as useful as they claim

no i have not seen them, will give them a go.

UTESRULE: they gave me a verbal agreement and suppose to have noted on their computer that when it runs out the agreed value will stay the same for another 12 months. but when they sent out the contract the value was less than half $12500 and they won't budge on that amount.

depends on your driving history and kms per year as to where I'd recommend.

I WAS with AAMI but they quoted $1275 for myself on my '02 Monaro. I did some shopping around and the cheapest I could get was with Mutual Community. The only catch is that's for under 10,000kms a year. They basically said if you think you'll go over, just give them a call and they'll adjust (obv. there's a fee for it). but either way, I keep my rating 1 and my wife's on there too and it cost $740. saved myself $500.

I guess too it depends on your car, where you keep it and how old you are. A few places don't want to know if it's not garaged. I've only got a car-port and Shannons didn't want to know because it's not garaged overnight. A few other places don't insure modified cars (which you really ought to tell them about because it'll cause problems if you do have an oopsie)

I work for Youi :)
As everyone would know, Youi is a low to medium risk insurer. Some of you guys have some pretty decent mods so best off trying an online quote first to see if Youi can provide you with insurance.

Request them to review the voice recording of that call if they have it. If they don't play ball try contacting the ombudsman for the insurance industry (like you'd contact the TIO for the telecommunications industry). This can sometimes light a fire under their arse.

Not exactly true, whoever told you that is wrong, there is no magical cut off. It works as a % of the value of the vehicle or the value you are insuring the accessory for is too high. With Youi, what you insure the mod/accessory for is added on the insured value (market or agreed, whatever you choose) which is why it won't let you add too much on in some cases (so you don't become overinsured) and a $20K car doesn't suddenly become worth 30K when its true value is more like 23K (just as an example).

If you want me to look into it, PM me. Naturally I can't give you any personal advice though.

Famous used to be good when they were through Calliden but now they have switched over to Dawes and are overpriced.

I'm with RACQ now:

22 year old
GDB back in 2007
VX Calais 5.7L
Body kit modified
18" wheels
LSD
Leather

$670 with car hire. Got a $400 high performance excess and $250 age excess though.

that's the problem.

Nirvana's car has got many times it's stock market value worth of modifications performed. And he just wants to insure it so that his car can be replaced should the worst happen.

i am with famous insurance, this is my 2nd year with them. cost went down 1/3 of the price at the change over. they seem to be pretty good for me, cost me about the grand mark for a 01 VX II Clubby R8 with exhaust, headers, 20" rims, short shift, $1,500 worth of sound gear and pedders coil overs. but its the excess i am happy with, $1,100 not at fault, and $2,100 at fault and under 25 years old. i am 23 too.
plus i also won $500 of fuel when i joined too, so made the deal even sweeter.

i tried shannons, but they dont seem to even look at you if your under 25, might be different now, but seemed to be the case a few years back. RACQ was great for an unmodded car, and the rest didnt seem to look at me either, too young or too much mods.

just my 2 cents
