We had a little after hours spare time last week, so we decided to try a few things and see how they affect rear wheel power....probably all been done before, but anyway, we thought it was interesting , give you guys something to read over dinner,/smoko/ breakfast...

We had a brand new 2010 auto 6L VE SS utes to play with (32Km on the clock ) with a tank full of car yard fuel....almost sure it was 91 ron.

This is one of the new "AFM" L76 engined models.

What do you think of the GTO front?.....I like it....

This car was booked in for a mafless tune, air box & full HM exhaust system, so we took the opportunity to do a dyno run before each mod.

First , we strapped the car down, and did a run with no mods - 218.8 rwkw

Second run, we removed the air intake from the air box, maf still attached and taped the air filter to the air box lid - 224.7 rwkw, a 6kw gain

Third run, we fitted the complete new HM Headers 2.5" exhaust system, once again we ran the car with no air box - 233.7 rwkw , 9kw gain just from the exhaust!

4th run, the air/fuel line looked a little strange at higher rpm, the maf calibration changes with a free flowing exhaust. We put the air box back on, sure enough, rwkw gain, 236.7 rwkw - 3 more from putting the air box back on ... on MAF cars, think twice before jamming on a pod filter or drilling holes in the air box..

So far with no adjustments, almost 18 rwkw gain, which is approx 24 kw at the flywheel.

We fitted our air box ( still with the MAF connected ) and did 2 more runs - after a small tweak of the spark table to reduce knock, and a tweak of the MAF calibration , here was another 10kw - 246.5 rwkw....may have had more if I spent more time.

Finally , we did the mafless conversion and tidied up the air/fuel ratios on the VE table - the AFM is still operational on this car , it gives an awesome sounding "BLAT" when you accelerate out of AFM mode....smooth power, no drone. - 256.3 rwkw.

We are bringing the car back in the new year for a re-run on the dyno, we want to see what it does with a tank of BP Ultimate!

Bolt on almost 50 kw at the flywheel...

Hope you don't mind a comparison. :)

My VE L76 started at 201rwkw on Chev's dyno, ended up at 260.4rwkw with 1 7/8 Pacies, Ballistic Racing cats, KPM 3" s/s system (sounds awesome, no drone in AFM mode when it still had AFM), DUS OTR and Chev mafless tune. That was at 1,800km and it's done almost 12,000km now without a tune tweak or another dyno run, so will be interesting to get Chev to tweak it and run it again.

Cam soon and remove all AFM gear. :yup:

good result there wonky thats only 25 kw less than my H+C 6L with inlet and T/B, etc

Great thread, recently purchased a new SSV A6 Ute with AFM. I like the way it drives in stock trim but dont like how quiet it is. Problem is their are soooo many exhaust combo's that I just haven't been able to work out what is decent without any drone and without sound like a tractor at idle.

Being that it only has about 750km on the clock now im hesitant to modify anything for a little while but it only does 100km/wk so it could take years to get a decent amount of km's on it, far too long for my liking.

Is your car manual or auto ??

regardless, 260.4 rwkw is a very good number, we've heard that Chev's dyno reads lower than ours ( irrelevant ) so " in translation " 260.4 is an excellent result :goodjob:

I've tuned L76's with higher numbers on our dyno, I know without a doubt, some "proper" fuel ( BP Ultimate ! ) will do wonders for this car....I was going to stick an octane booster in the tank, but IMHO, it defeats the purpose of the dyno.

Don't hesitate on the HM headers system, we've fitted a few of the 2.5" ( haven't installed a 3" yet ) no drone, nice, crisp sound under load and a quality fit.

With some simple mods , as you can see, you can get a nice gain.

Interesting reading thanks for posting it up

Not a fan of the front end personaly maybe it will grow on me

Is the HM system the full system including headers and cats?

My 09 VE L98 M6 with 1,700 k's made 237 rwkw's at Chev's dyno day

Have since fitted the HM 2.5 cat back which I love!

Next decision to make is which headers / cats to go with

Am leaning towards the same headers / cats Wonky has

Customer came back in last week, wanted a nice cam and spring package that would accept a blower down the track.

This L76 is following the trend of being 20 rwkw down compared to what we see from L98's.....we're hanging to see how the L76 heads will go with the blower....

We added the run to our chart and tidied it up so it makes sense. Now all we have to do is wait for the blower to make this complete !
