My late 06 clubsport has some gremlins in the wiring, all to do with the headunit control. It randomly shuts down and if the aircon is running I can't turn it off, on other occasions the screen goes blank but controls still function.
On start I get traction control error on the dash screen and when holden plugs in tech 2 It gives multiple error codes and most say under volt error. Holden seem to think its the battery but when tested it has 550 cold cranking amps, now on regular driving the volt meter shows high 14's and on on occasion it was 15 volts.
I ispected the battery inb the boot after its last service and low and behold the tray and all around the batt was covered in white powder from what looks to be an overflow. Could the regulator be cooking the battery? and tripping the system over volt protection cct's? The car starts fine and battery sounds healthy it shows 12.5 on the volt meter when ignition is switched on in the morning... Can anyone help?

Hi Statesy,

I am assuming that you VE HSV is up to date with the latest software for the PCM/BCM?. From what I have been told there (and received on my SSV) new software updates addressing charge rate of the alternator and how long the system takes to go to sleep were released a while back.

I to would get the ABS error if I turned the ignition key to on, wait for the fuel pump to charge up and about 10 sec after that start the car, the warning would show on the centre display. I did get a fresh "standard" replacement ACDelco (450CCA) battery which stopped this from coming on again. However I upgraded the battery to the 600CCA one that is fitted to the statesman. The issue has not come back. If the battery is upgraded (450 to 600) you need to update the software to accommodate the charge rate. Many people have fitted larger capacity batteries without do this and it will over time degrade its performance.

In relation to the headunit shutting down, I beleive this issue was addressed under similar software updates. Although I beleive there were some problems with the H-VAC systems in the early VE series. These units needed to be replace. Additionally it could also be a loose power terminal post (located on the firewall inside the car - left side under the glovebox. There is a junction which connects the power leads from the battery to the electrical system for engine / engine management.

Hope this information is of some use. I am sure there will be other opinions for you to explore. Or try the search function...

Cheers,

Phil:)
