for those of you with red ls1's, would you put on red ls1 engine covers?

for those of you with blue ls1's, would you pt on red ls1 engine covers?

basically, would you match your engine covers to your car colour or just leave them a plain silver or black?

eg http://jhp.com.au/img/products/exteriors/engine_covers/red-ls1-cover-h.jpg?imagealt=

how do you rate it...tasteful or too ricey?

for those of you with these type of engine covers, have you ever had issues with OTRs?

I have a silver VY II SS, with the silver covers, and the DUS OTR.

Could not be happier, and never any dramas with heating, fitment or any other problems.

They look a lot better than the standard turtle shell.

Go whatever colour you prefer, they all look pretty good.

Colour coding the covers to match the car usually looks pretty good. However, I went for the red covers - because with a black car & all the black bits under the bonnet, I wanted a bit of contrast.
I haven't heard of any clearance issues with otr's.

.....but at the end of the day it comes down to how you would have it :)

And fwiw I've had zero issues with my otr!

did you have to lose the covers when you whacked the supercharger on top?

monaro ones look sweet and my cars yellow. any chance you still have em lying around? :)

I have retro fitted them to go onto the blower. It takes a bit of time to make the new brackets, but it looks good I recon.

Wombie, Monarocv804, niiiice.

I too would match, but depends on your car. Anything will look good if your car's black. Mine are matched. Car's flame, engine covers are flame, CAI is also matched. It's all personal choice I suppose :)

True anything goes with black, but red really sets it off, i actually sprayed my rocker covers red to break it up abit.

Yep, i got mine painted to match. Personally i reackon the VZ covers are a lot beter looking then the aftermarket covers. Each to there own though :)

Noob question...is changing the engine cover all about looks, or do these split covers somehow often some sort of small gain over the turtle shell (trap less heat, etc)???

ziggycv8z
29-12-2009, 09:18 PM
I went with something a little different.

The turtle shell traps more heat than the split covers.. They are only there to cover the packs and so on.. I have the VZ ones in Storm Grey same as my car).. I personally don't really care if I have no covers on it. The smooth kind bolt on which I guess it a little better than the VZ ones that just clip on cause I broke one of the little plastic clips on one of them..

do red flames make it even faster again? :)

for those of you who have painted your own twin covers, have you painted the top side only and left the underside raw?

MANARO
30-12-2009, 10:10 AM
red flames will run hotter (slower) blue flames are cooler (faster):xmas::xmas:
i left the underside unpainted just make sure to paint the edges where they meet the manifold as it can sometimes get missed and look ugly -imo......scott

Must admit this thread has got me wanting covers for my ute, I took the turtle shell off an its currently bare, I'm looking at the fibreglass ones by custom bonnets on ebay, would go the smooth finish in white to match the car but am a little skeptical about how the would fit, anyone had any troubles?

actually this thread makes me glad I keep the engine bay clean too. Some bloody great looking cars on this forum, inside, outside, and under the hood. Manaro, Ziggy, loving it.

do the engine covers require a high temp paint cos they are on top of the engine or is normal paint ok?

i just got some covers like these but unpainted. they are fibreglass and you can easily see that on the bottom but the top looks like hard plastic with "monaro" slightly raised.

will these be ok on top of an engine (being fibreglass)?
is special paint needed underneath or can the bare fibreglass be left exposed?

The ones on ebay are for a billet cap that needs to be glued on (seems dodgy) is there any others that fully replace them or thats it?

I have the slip on style ones and if they are good quality and have been made correctly, there is not need to glue them on. I have used to double sided tape on mine and they are a good fit. Just remember to get them chromed, otherwise you will be polishing them all the time.

I'm not a fan of the engine covers now that i've relocated the coils. Looks heaps cleaner IMHO
I'm in the process of making 2 little stainless covers to cover just the fuel rail for a different look.
If it turns out alright they'll stay, if not ill grab a set of billet rails

You could polish your existing fuel rails if you don't need larger volume ones.
