Gday people

i just got a yellow sticker on my ve ss ute for wheels being to big and exhaust might be to loud so its going to be checked when at the pits, wheels are 22'' and the exhaust is full exforce 3''.

i have spare ssv wheels so thats no problem but im worried about the exhaust should i change it or will it be ok. i also have mafless tune and otr will that be fine when it goes over the pits?

any advice would be appreciated
cheers

OTR should be ok as its an enclosed intake. usually pod filters that are exposed are the ones that break the rules

if its easy to swap the wheels and exhaust then its prob best to do so....avoid any dramas

doesnt it have to maintain the maff for the otr or.. and its best to change the exhaust ask on the forum to see if u can borrow a stock exhaust just to pass the pits

Mate,
I'm pretty sure the standard mufflers (if you still have them) will just bolt up to the xForce system. Should quieten it down a fair bit!!!!!

I have a 2 1/2 xForce system and are keeping some standard mufflers for that very purpose.

Cheers and good luck!

change everything back to stock, the exhaust they will most probably measure the DB reading and it will fail with an aftermarket one, the otr's are illegal well i know they are on the vt-vz im sure theyd be the same for ve and as you said the wheels are no biggy

man they wont pass you unless all intake and exhaust parts are stock.... i just had major dramas with mine.... I even bought cats that wenrt the stock ones but were just replacements (non perfomance) and they wernt happy..... so i just threw away 500 bucks... all standard airbox had to be in place..... i had an ss exhaust on with a v6 single pipe 2 inch for the rear muffler and i only passed by 2 decibels..... its a prick to get the car passed.... night mare for me... good luck with it all.... and yeah obviously wheels are no drama

cheers, brett

On a yellow defect, it has the option of where they sent you too, and that in turn depends on how hard or easy it will be to clear.

how come for the wheels, you can get factory 20 inch so 22 is only one size up ,ive been pulled over with my 22's and they never said anything.what did they pull you over for?

because he probly got the car factory with 19's so that makes it 3 inches bigger. they go by what the plackard says on the car. and for the zorst make up two steel gaskets and drill some holes in it and that will quiten it down.pass the pits and put the propper gaskets back in.

thanks guys

it was at a booze bus
yeah the car came out with 19'' so they went off the tyre plackard which i will change after i get over the pits
i will try make up to caskets and see how that sounds if thats no good i will try the stock mufflers
its such a pain ive been driving like this for over a year and no hassels just one prick and they give you a sticker

cheers for your input

Wheels should definitely not be a problem. You sound like your going to have problems with the exhaust. Although a friend of mine got a yellow defect with a 3" xforce on his ve ssv ute and they passed him saying they've had worse come through.

Depends on where the pits are... and who it is

good luck

i'd prob take it to welshpool pits, and ya dont have to book in there, just rock up and line up, get in early so ther in a good mood still :)

There is'nt really a designated pits to take it to, If it were me i'd take it there, they arnt to bad...... steer well clear of warwick pit, absolute floggers, and really picky.

as for the exhaust, even maybe try some steel wool in the mufflers, acts like a silencer.

g/l anyway

put the stock mufflers on , so it at least looks stock .

are your cats still stock ??

N.S.W. =
The drive-by test for the new ADR is indicative of the actual noise levels vehicles emit on the road
which will be 2-3 db(A) lower than currently for all vehicles.

The new level for cars is 74 dB(A), down from 77 dB(A).
The level for motorcycles over 250 cc is 80 dB(A),

link (http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/noise/0871infomv.pdf)

anyone tried the DB metre app for i phones ??

So exposed Pod air filters are illegal , even in N.S.W. ???

1 of my cars has been over the pits with a otr still in place along with a 4200stall 236/240 cam and pacy headers and twin 3" catback :)
when rego had to be changed from QLD to WA and that was late last year

there is a VERY big diffence between rego inspections and getting inspected for a defect notice..... the epa only give a few places the authority the remove a defect.... say 3 or 4 in the sydney area... (as an example) they wont accept anything but a stock airbox.... stock cats and a very quiet exhaust...(they even apparently will fail you if your cats are in not in the right spot. ie further up or down the pipe) they arnt idiots and will most likely see a gasket fitted.... plus they also take photos so they can sting you harder next time you get caught...
i tried winging it with other than stock parts and they just sent me away... of course charging me first..... trust me when i say just go back to stock everything..... its alot cheaper.... i learnt the hard way....

whats the go with yellow stickers at the moment??

I have seen loads of cars here in Perth with stickers even your Mum and Dad cars?

They must need to boost revenue?

do W.A. vehicles require a yearly inspection ,??
If not , that would probably explain it .

In N.S.W. we have to get a yearly inspection if the car is more than 3 year old .

No yearly inspections for 99% of cars , i think it used to be the case that cars that were left hand drive cars needed annual inspections , but i think that's changed now.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but was just wondering....

With yellow stickers in Perth, when you take your car over the pits, do they inspect the whole vehicle or just what is written on the work order?

I got a yellow yesterday for tint being too dark, and that is all that is written on the work order but if they inspect the whole vehicle i am pretty damn sure it won't pass with the cam and 3 inch DF exhaust that is currently fitted to the car....

Damn down south po po with nothing better to do than harrass me :flipoff:

Cheers Scott

I've noticed the RAC stickers on the average mum and dad car look just like a canary from 10 paces... :)

So if you go non-OEM cats they want to defect you. But what about the mums and dads fitting non-OEM brake pads, non-OEM mufflers, non-OEM headlights etc. Sounds like yet again they're picking on well maintained cars for money and technicalities.

When I stroked and modded my AU XR8 I took it to RTA Botany for the pollution/emission test. Everything was aftermarket incl exhaust. Some smart thought went into it (including placement of the cats per my instructions to the exhaust fabricator) but the result was an easy pass including the cold test. We coated the headers and cats as well as wleding the cats to the headers to maximise heat transfer and cat lightoff. I carried the report in the car after that to show it was compliant.

I wonder if cars with mods mentioned here would pass that test?

I would change it all back to stock and get through the inspection. I look at it as basically the cost of having a car the way you want it and the law of averages... you can only hope that it doesn't happen frequently and just accept the dumb luck instances of having to get the inspection.... sorry to hear they got nothing better to do... I see so many sh*tboxes with canvas hanging out - crappy old utes burning more oil than fuel...etc etc etc that seem to be running the odds - unfortunately they seem to get better odds than a well sorted safe modern vehicle with a few mods on it.....

I went over the pits last week got yellow sticker for to loud and window tint. Had dual 3" di fillipo and otr cam hi stall. I put standard exhaust from headers back and put back standard airbox and maff in. Didnt have a drama at all went straight over. Bit of a hassle changing everything but was alot easier than gettin asked for im 240 testing etc. That was at oconnor.

I am going to take that approach, put the stock exhuast and air filter back on, engine cover back on, get the tune back to as quiet as possible and strip the tint.... Hopefully the cam will be quiet enough for it to go over without any hassles.... I have the W427 springs in it, any idea if they will pass???

Your aloud to have 1 air mod either intercool or air intake with exhaust just put normal one back on. i would ring up and ask about air cleaner set up you have before changing it

Know the feeling. I made the silly mistake of buying my E series R8 from the ACT. Got it home to Sydney and the next day got all excited, took it to CHE for the works and then it hit home. "I now have to go and get it blue slipped for rego transfer to NSW" Pain in the arse. It failed on the exhaust as it is a real loud system. Had to go and get the original system refitted, get it blue slipped, and then go back and put the CHE system back on all costing more $$$.

I say, just get it swapped over before you go over the pits, save yourself the dramas mate.

Cheers,
Jusso

finaly got the yellow sticker off, i first took it to the ozzypark pits were you can book it in and dont wait in a line for a day , so they picked me up on tint to dark and also they said my cats were hollow which there not so told me to change the exhaust or get it tested which is $$. i ended up taking the tint off and taking it over the welshpool pits with out touching the exhaust and they then told me the exhaust is fine but your car is too low.
so in the end i changed the springs and it past.

its funny how they let you go on one thing and then get you on another thing!! what a wast of time and money!!!

To repeat a question someone asked earlier.... I got yellow stickered the other day for my bullbar. Is this all the inspection crew can fail you for? Or is it an open field day on any and all other mods? It's enough of a pain in the ass as it is to get a bullbar off let alone, wheels, exhaust, OTR, suspension...even my spotties arent 100% legit. Aaaaghhhhh.

A yellow sticker means the whole car gets in spected regardless of what you got done for. I passed with my cam, OTR, extractors and cats, HID's ect. It all depends on who you get on what day, it sucks ass, bigtime
