Hi Guys,

In the last 12 months ive gone from a 253 rwkw VE SSV to a MY03 WRX and now hopefully back to a V8.

I will have around 20k once the rex is gone and looking at a VTII Clubsport R8 or pushing the budget out to 25k and mayb getting a VTII GTS. Im just curious on what you guys think would be the best way to go ??? The C4B can seem to have some issues. Would getting a VTII R8 with premium brakes and leather, then doing a couple of tasty mods be a better cheaper way to go ?

Cheers Paul

You have a statistically higher chance of finding a good second hand later model SS with some goodies than searching for a HSV that you will pay more for insurance.

Search through carsales.com - type in Holden, V8, 4 door, your price bracket and off you go.........

I'd say you would struggle to find a VTR8 in good condition now. I bought mine 2 1/2 years ago and even then it was hard to find a good one. For 20 -25k you would easily find a VXR8 or even a VYR8 now. Don't get an SS, they are essentially a exec with a V8. I had a choice of the VTR8 or a VYSS and I've never regretted getting the VT.

I always wanted a black VT2 GTS or Black VT2 R8 m6. I ended up with a Black R8 m6 on VX GTS 19s, full exhaust leather etc etc and low klms for a very decent price. The car was immaculate.(surprising seeing it was an ex p plater car and I swore I would never buy a car owned by a p plater- goes to show we cant stereotype). I had the bars color coded like a GTS and it has been mistaken for a GTS on a number of occasions - people love it. Would I swap my R8 for a GTS if I had the extra cash....NOPE I would cam my R8 and pocket the extra cash. I know Im better off by at least 10k MIN thanks to owning the R8 as opposed to a GTS

i know of a Phantom 2002 VX SS Series 2 with 110,000 km with 18" Monaro GTO rims, F1 Performance Single Turbo kit, Surge tank, Koni Yellows, Kings Springs, 343mm front brakes that might be up for sale around the price your looking (with spare change) in Melbourne.

PM me if your interested. :)

For $20K ish you should be able to get VXR8, for $25K you should be able to get a VYR8 - I think the VX is better looking than VT or VY, but VTR8 is still a good thing as long as you can find a good low Km one.

Hey mate,

I was in a similar situation not long ago... Around $25k to spend on a car. I test drove Monaros, VY Clubsports, VZ/VE SSs, VX Senators, BA XRT6s, Evo VII, WRX and S15s.

I ended up picking up a Black VX SS with a stroked 6.3L V8 making around 330rwkw. Had upgraded diff, transmission, brakes and had factory red leather, sunroof etc.

I know its not the "best" car on the road, but i love it to bits. The sound is amazing, the power is awesome and so very even, and the car has real character. I know technically the VE has a better chassis, more toys etc... but for that money it would be stock... same as everyone else. I love the fact i spent $35k in total (doing a bunch of upgrades + onroad costs etc) on a 8 year old SS... Cause its so unique, it really does turn heads.

So yeah, need to decide if you want something rare, something "common" but heavily worked, or something new/stock. Also depends what you want out of the car...

Im getting mine ready for a few track days... so its a great GT car and fun on a track. Looks good (IMO), has plenty of power and most of the toys of a newer model (climate control, full electric seats, gps etc will be installed in the near future).

Shop around and see what you like.

Cheers
