It appears there are still some bargains around.
Just checked the Australian Muscle Car Sales website, & they have an original LHD 1969 Mach 1 Mustang listed at $55K!
Compare that with "replica" XY Gts, at prices way above that....I know what I'd rather have.
This car is grabber blue, has a marti report, looks pretty Mickey Mouse to me...check it out....tell me what you think!
Cheers, Pickles.

oh man don't say things like that!

I been nagging the missus to let me buy something cool. I figure if I piss and moan enough about it she'll eventually slip up and say "URGH FFS DO WHATEVER YOU WANT" (come on fellas we've all been there... "what? You're annoyed? You told be to do whatever I wanted so I bought a <expensive toy>")

So there I was admiring a nice red Mustang coupe and jokingly said "if you loved me, you'd let me buy one for you" and she says "hmph. If you loved me you'd buy me a black 67 Impala"

problem I have is we don't have a garage. Probably a blessing. "someone" wants a '67 Impala and "something old with wire wheels, running boards, and leather seats."

I think I'm destined to be one of those people who's ALWAYS paying off a car loan on something :)

Had a look at the website... mmmm... some awesome kit on there! Lovely '37 Chevy Window and the red Impala SS 427 is stunning!

Pretty much my thoughts also Pickles.

I'd also rather have a nice clean Mach Mustang than a 'standard' GT. I like particular cars rather than just the one brand or another so I'd say the same about most classic Monaro's you'd buy at 55K too. I'm probably less interested in muscle or history these days, so for 55K I'd find an absolute peach of a 65-69 Mustang convertible, with change.

However the 'real deal' Phase 1/2/3 GTs and the HK/T/G Monaro GTS 327 and 350 cars (plus of course, XU1, L34, A9X, E49, etc.) are local legends - when you pay this much for an 'old clunker' there's more heart than head! What it's done of course is drag the prices of the other variants up too.

I always think of the fact you can buy a nice Boss 302 for less money than these classic Aussie touring cars. Probably in Australia the Trans-Am cars with 5 litre capacities aren't all that respected. Was lucky enough to run around in a Boss 302 for a while, had that real muscle car feel beyond anything built here IMHO. One thing about LHD if you prefer not to or you dont pay the extra money for a quality conversion is that it can be a real pain in the backside driving them. Maybe my lack of driving skill ... but it's just a bit hard at times.

With the American cars another factor is that the great cars are on another level - for instance with Mustang you've got the Shelbys and one of my dream cars, the Boss 429. Similarly addition of 'Cobra Jet' options onto the Mach cars and then from the other brands the great big block Vettes, Camaros plus the Mopars, etc - its like the yanks had another higher league than us :) I do think though that it means the lower spec small block cars and the overall sheer volume of cars produced means the prices are more 'reasonable'.

my old man bought a 1964 mustang from america last year. its a 2 door hard top LHD gun metal grey. it cost 10K. i think it cost more to ship it over here then what he bought the car for. it has a 289 engine in it or whatever there called.

he also has a 1973 hq gts monaro(4 door) which he bought 8 years ago for 2 grand left it sitting in the back yard for 6 years rusting away then one day he strips out the engine(i think it was a 262)strips out the hole interior gives it a new paint job(flame orange i think its called) puts in a 350 chev brand new engine shipped over from the usa. and put in black leather seats with gts stitched in red on them. looks mint. some guy offered him 30k for it but he turned it down. i turn 21 in 3 weeks im hoping that that will be my birthday present, HOPING :)

I own two AMC Javelins (a '69 RHD "AMI" model and an imported '74 LHD "AMC" model) and will never go back to Aussie musclecars - prices are stupid. I'd love to have back my XB GS Coupe, VH 770 Charger, VG coupe, etc .. but it ain't gonna happen. I laugh when I read JustCars or UniqueCars and see XB GT mockups with asking prices more than a '68 Dodge Charger on the same page. Unless its a straight investment most Yank '60s/70's musclecars will be a much sweeter ride than anything local ..

I worked for a Finance Co, & one of my jobs was to dispose of the repossessions. We had several muscle cars over the years...I can remember an orange Rambler Javelin, we had a 7000 mile Phase 111, with just a little dent in the front guard....it sold for $3700 (no-one wanted it!)...in 1972/3 though!. We had lots of Mustangs, GT Falcons, Chargers etc, & the odd A9X.
I enjoyed that job.....it was like operating my own used car yard!
Cheers, Pickles.

Damn, should not have looked at that site!
The Missus wants a landcruiser but that may be in danger now!

You can have two of those Mustangs (his and hers?) for the price of a VN Group A...

I'd still rather Mustanger's VL Walky which I believe didn't cost him as much as that VN and is pristine!! Slightly higher mileage but he isn't afraid to get it out and actually use it!! :goodjob:

What about a 67XR GT falcon restored though, for 25K. None original motor.
