Same applies with Just Car Insurance - they state will insure any mod AS LONG AS IT'S LEGAL.

If you want to get technical, ALL insurance companies have a clause in their PDS that you vehicle has to be roadworthy. A vehicle with illegal modifications is not roadworthy....

See what i'm getting at?
I work for a big insurer and trust me, all contact for insurance companies is on recorded phone lines, if they state on the recorded phone line that they will cover the modifications, there is nothing they can do come claims time (to get out of the claim).

Me: What about my modifications?
NRMA: Don't need to list them, they just need to be all legal.
Me: Well I purchased the car a few days ago so i've got a RWC, does that mean that you will cover the vehicle with modifications?
NRMA: Yes, that is correct.

Not all phone lines to insurance companies are recorded. You need to be very careful advising of this as it is a very general comment.

When the FOS investigate make a judgement the PDS will be the overriding factor in what is and isnt covered. Also an insurer may not reject a claim for an illegal mod.it would if that mod contributed to the claim, so if you have super low suspension ( that was illegally low ) and it caused your car to bottom out and rip the exhaust off the insurer may decline a claim.

In the same scenario you had a rear ender the insurer would have no grounds to decline your claim due to the low suspension of the car if it did not contribute to the claim.

Guys premiums are great but the cover (PDS ) is what to look for. Check the agreed value is just that, some hide the fact that it is an upto in the PDS and it is up to you to make you sure. No point paying for a car to be insured X$'s when they will only pay you B$'s.

I pay mine monthly, just coz it was easier for me to keep track even though you pay alittle bit extra for the convenience. It's $310 a month
I'm 21 and my ute is registered in my name and every so you can imagine I get hit with all the excesses/premium and what not being under 25 and owning a VZ SS ute

edit: I'm with AAMI, full comprehensive

$75 a month for a wh Satato v8, 92 Hilux both Modified, both agreed value, and a None Registered LE Monaro (layed up insurance), equals about 900 a year. I'm 30 and had 1 accident and 1 car stolen. Shannons are great.

In my earlier post, i was with AAMI, at $153 a month, for $27,700 cover. I thought it was $30k, but when i got my new notice, it had gone down.

I rang Shannons earlier today, and changed over to them. $118 a month for $30k agreed value, with every mod listed.

Exhaust (extractors, hi-flo cats, cat back system)
Camshaft
OTRCAI
MAFless tune
Stall convertor
19" mags
Lowered suspension
Personalised plates
3.7:1 KAAZ LSD
Harrop diff cover

And for the misses car... VX Berlina wagon, LS1

Lowered
Mags
Exhaust
OTRCAI
MAFless tune

$72 a month for $12k cover

Defently pays to shop around

No, you're incorrect mate.

You can read FOS judgements on their website. I work for an insurance company and the company denied a claim due to lowered suspension not disclosed by the client. The suspension did not contribute in any way to the accident. The client took it to the FOS who considered that we would not have covered the client if the modified suspension was disclosed and that it was valid to deny the claim on the grounds on non-disclosure.

Go with NRMA, you can rasie your excess; in return lowers your yearly premium, really worth considering if your getting hammer with a huge insurance bill

I must admit I was suprised as I was paying this for my Maloo which had a few mods, but wasn't blown, the bloke I bought the VE from told me he never insured it cause he didn't think he could with the blower and other mods, one phone call, and I don't need to worry about where I park it, guard dogs, shotguns etc.. lol

G'day all, 1st post here!...

WOW. Can't believe the diff in SYD vs rest of AUS. What a rip!

Bought on Satdee a brand new VE SSV. Manual. 20's etc.

Did all the usual online quotes, Budget Direct that always have a cheap and nasty offerring won't insure me, and the rest were ranging from $1,900 to $2,600. CRIKEY. And these are all with all the boxes ticked like higher excess, min 30yo drivers, and just market value. :spew:

From reading this thread I just did a AAMI quote and can get it to around $1,356.00 again with very high excess and all that jazz.

Any other help / suggestions? Wifes car, her and I both 31yo with unblemished record max NCB no claims and car is kept driveway or LUG.

Did you call Shannons, they actually rang me back on Friday offering to reduce the premium if i insured another car, i said i would when they cam up.

If you have more then one car to insure, give them a call.
