View Full Version : Oil for captiva diesel
Hi all, just been to my local dealership to buy oil for the captiva and was pretty shocked at the $160 price tag for 6 litres of 5w40! Just want to know if there is a cheaper alternative out there?

Yes the genuine oil in retail bottles is terribly expensive. We don't even waste our time stocking it.
Yes you can use other brands, but make sure you meet the specs required, as listed in the owners manual. They must use the correct specification of oil.

For a while no one wanted to spec an oil in alternative to the recommended GM oil. I got the GM oil 6 litres for under $100 from a dealership guy who understands business. But in the absence of that Castrol Edge 0W40 synthetic is recommended and more than suitable (it's what I use in between dealer services).
///Careful/// Some listings for the Captiva specify 30W oil - DO NOT follow this. It only applies to the petrol models. You must use a synthetic 40W oil for the turbodiesel.
Yeah good to know about the castrol edge 0w40 as the dealer told me there was no other oil on the market sutable for the captiva. thanks heaps
