Hi All,

It is almost 20 years since I bought my first SS commodore - a 1990 VN, since then I have owned a VS, VT and my current VY SS Ute. Each time I traded in old for new I considered HSV but the price always had me stick with the factory SS. This time I am determined to go HSV!

My question is thus: Should I buy a 2009 E2 Maloo R8 at hopefully a big discount for the end of year run out or would I be better off to wait until March and take a look at the new Maloo GXP? There is a $9K price difference in RRP but I would have to add the hardlid to the GXP. I have a good gut feel as to what to pay for factory SS's but no idea of what sort of discount off RRP I can negotiate for an HSV be it 2009 or 2010 build. I live in the Brisbane metro area.

Any thoughts or advice that you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I notice you missed out on the joy of a HSV by the price factor . Stop looking at the new ones because they are nothing but a depreciating item which is what HSV love . This is why HSV keep adding 10 or so kw with a simple tune and exhaust change to make everybody get rid of their old ( now underpowered to them ) , car to move into something new ... Then wait to see how much trade in you get on your 1 or 2 year old car ?
IMO I would look around for these cars that the guys are getting rid of to get the latest thing out , and snap yourself a bargain privately on a car that will still have a fair bit of the factory warranty .
After 2 years the depreciation will be something like 40% which makes it a better bargain than a new SS ?
You can find 06 GTS's now in the 40K mark . not bad for an 80k car 2 years ago and I am sure if you hunt you will find one with low ks as well .
You should also look at selling your car privately if you are concerned about the money if you want the overall best deal and IMO stay well away from the Dealers .

To perhaps answer your question in a way you wanted it answered...
Have a look in your major papers when they a motoring section in it. HSV's are always advertised on these major days, so you should get a reasonable idea of where to start.
To my mind, if you could get a 2009 Maloo for not much more than a 2010 GXP, you are getting a higher level package overall for very little extra, so it's quite straight forward.
You may be a little restricted in colour choice and any options fitted though by buying the last of last years cars.

Thanks Guys, I have become so internet dependant that I had forgotten about the auto section ads in the daily paper - I will check out this weekend's Courier Mail. I will be on the Gold Coast this weekend so might drop by Surfers City Holden to see if they have anytthing worthwhile in 2009 E2's.
