Hi Guys,

I'm looking at doing a DIY water feature for the pool. The wife wants a spillway in the middle (easy part, I'll just buy one) and then on either side she wants 3 water spouts squirting water into the pool. For these spouts, is it just a matter of running the 50mm PVC pipe to each side, capping the ends and then having the 3 smaller (? copper pipe) come straight off that squirting into the pool or is there some sort of nozzle attachment I need to have?
I have a pipe running from the pool pump to where the feature will be built and was going to put a valve in it that can adjust how much water goes to the spillway and how much to the squirters.
Anyone have any experience with these things that can give some tips and pointers?

Thanks.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you've pretty much got it right. Not sure about using copper pipe for the spouts, there must be a better way of doing that using PVC and proper nozzles. Also if you have two PVC pipes one each side of the spillway with one nozzle on one side and two on the other you may find that the spouts come out at different pressures resulting in different length spouts. If the nozzles are adjustable then this can easily be balanced. I'd go to a place that specializes in water features and ask them for suggestions. They will be able to sell you the right gear and give you the right advice.

Will be 3 spouts either side to keep it even. I thought depending on flow rate of the pool pump (300l/min) if I could get away with just relying on the pressure of pumping the water through smaller size pipe that it might work. No idea on how to get from the 50mm PVC to this smaller pipe though?
Searching the net but I'll I can find is pre-maid bloody water features. Might pay a visit to Reece plumbing and ask them.

Sorry I thought you meant 3 jets in total. I doubt Reece will have the expertise to help you. Try these guys I found on the net. I'm sure they would be able to sell you the parts and you can install yourself. The beauty is the nozzles are adjustable so you can balance it and have the jets go the correct distance without having to worry too much about the water pressure. There is a "locate dealer" so you can find the dealer closest to you.

You will need more than 300L/H pump for a spillway alone. let alone the other spouts.

Let the people know when you buy your spillway and they will advise what pump size is suitable.

I just finished off a water feature/pond and its a psyudo spillway using custom folded gutter it sits about 1000mm off the ground and i use a 4800L/M pump.

You can put a stop valve inline to reduce flow if you need.

prob best to use a pvc reducer for the spouts down to what ever size you need.

I've had a look at the hurlcon spillways and apparently with 300L/min I should be able to do an 1800mm spillway sitting 900mm high and 300mm back from the pool edge. I was going to sit this closer to the pool edge to allow for the extra squirters. Looking at the silk flow ones with the fibre optic lighting.

Thanks for the links mac06, I think that's what I'm after!
