Hi Guys,

I've been trolling round the net looking at brake prices etc and have spoken to a company in the US that sell PBR M-Series brakes for the Corvette, prices are $2415 + $750 shipping (then taxes on top) - with the dollar being so good, its looking at around $3500-$3600, all that is needed is mounting brackets to fit them to VT-VZ which (form my understanding) are available from PBR.

This would work out as a massive saving as RRP in AUS for a kit like this is around $6,000.

The person I have been dealing with has said that if a group buy is possible, the price would be better.

I cannot afford to get these brakes for myself, I was just looking, but willing to help everyone out who is interested.

Nope, just expression of interest, like I said, I'm willing to organise it etc..

Import taxes and GST will obviously apply as the value is over $1000...

Here is a pic of the kit...

Correct, I mentioned that I would obtain an expression of interest to guage numbers, so that a pricing points can be worked out.

Remember, this price does not include Australian Taxes that would apply.

No idea at this stage, I will investigate it when I have a little more time.

Yeah, they come like that as these are actually a corvette upgrade package, and only require a bracket for them to be mounted.

Don't wish to rain on the parade, but:-

You do realise that you do not get the 2-piece front and rear rotors that the Aus-spec kit gets, do you not???

Sounds like a decent idea, but shipping costs will be significant and import duties will also bite you in the bum. I'd do plenty of research prior to purchasing these things from the US.

cheers

+1 with what macca said.

I picked up a set for $4630. That's with ADR compliance, 5 dot fluid, performance pads, brackets, two piece rotors both 14 inches. If you do the sums, even if they're a couple of hundred dollars cheaper, it probably wont be worth the trouble. Just don't buy from Repco and shop around. Sorry.

There are rumours that a VE version is being tested

Will watch this thread with interest

I would probably paint the callipers for a stealth look anyway

Please excuse my ignorance but isn't PBR an Australian company or was until they were bought out by Bosch? I was under the impression that they still made brake kits out at their East Bentleigh site.

There has to be a better way to get their kits at a resonable price instead of freighting them to the US and back.

A bit more rain maybe........

Corvette front rotors at least have a very small hat height, similar to VE/Camaro/Adventra so you had also better be sure that you are getting rotors to suit the GTO sold over there, not Corvette.

I guess its just one of those things where its better for them to sell based on volume in the US rather than on margin like they do in Australia.

Just another example of Australian businesses not looking after Australian's really.

$750 for shipping seems like a lot. could that be a lot less if there was a large order placed and sent via sea instead?

amckiwi

Mail no longer comes by sea from the US

This has alt least doubled mail costs from the US

Maybe a freight forwarder could be used but it could take much longer

No different to buying Yella Terra stuff cheaper with postage from the U.S. than buying wholesale here.
The States probably sells as many corvetts as we sell commodores.
If you go onto US corvette sites it feels like every second American owns a corvette.

I know its older thread but the PBR-M from the states are currently going for ~2000 AUD + $650 shipping (to Perth).

Even with customs tax and shipping, you are still 1.5-2k ahead.

If your not happy with the rotors you have 'spare' 1.5-2k to purchase better rotors in future.

This is current price on single kits.. without group buy.

I'm not sure if we ened to source brackets for these kits and how much they cost.
Rub, do you have any info on this?

If you guys are going to get them from the US be sure you get the correct rear callipers.. ie top mount with machining for clearance over side mount.

Here is the difference.
The bottom one is for commodores.

Am looking to purchase this kit in the next couple of weeks and am keen to hear from anyone who can do the PBR M series posted to Sydney 2753.

Just found a cracked front rotor on my M series brakes. Only had them for a year but did do 3 or 4 track days on them. Was always careful to cool them down each time and rotated them from under the pads once back in the pits but obviously to no avail. DBA don't do a replacement rotor (355 x 32) so I'll have to buy original replacement rotors. Only problem is they will cost me (front pair) $1300.:bawl: Repco wanted $1600 telling me it was at trade prices too.:vpo:

These are good performance brakes but the cost of replacing rotors and pads leaves me little choice but to not recommend these brakes if you intend to do any serious track work. What you save during the initial purchase you will pay for in expensive replacement parts.

Seriously thinking about giving up track days now.

Its a sad fact when production based cars are used for track days the brakes cop a pounding.

Dont give up though, perhaps focus more on mid corner speed and corner exit and lengthen the braking zones a little to give the brakes a rest.

I'm real keen on this kit and would like to hear from someone wishing to supply one to me, preferably new, including freight to Sydney 2753.

PM if prefered.

See that's why i wanted to know the replacement rotor cost. those prices are just rediculous. I picked up brand new dba4000 rotors in the 355x32 for my ve/brembo kit for less than $140 a rotor.
