Eight German teenagers have been hospitalised after a test of courage in which they drank chili sauce more than 200 times hotter than normal, officials say.

The Red Cross in the southern city of Augsburg says that 10 boys, aged 13 and 14, year drank the sauce on Wednesday morning, apparently in school.

The German news agency DAPD quoted the Red Cross as saying the boys complained of feeling sick, and eight were taken to a hospital. They were to be kept overnight for observation.

The Red Cross said that on the Scoville scale, which measures the hotness of sauce, the sauce measured 535,000 - compared to 2,500 for normal Tabasco sauce.

Prompted by reading this, and reacalling some chili and hot sauce that I've eaten with other forum members, I thought I'd ask the wider audience about thier own favourite chili sauces. They need not necessarily be HOT sauces, but could just be favourites for flavour.

I used to buy the Iain Hewitson 'Kick Arse BBQ Sauce' which had good kick of hot in it, but the flavour was what really made this one.

A local Mexican restaurant has a nice hot salsa that they make. It burned my lips on the way in, I had no idea that something could burn so bad on the way out. :flame::eeeeek::flame:

A good serving of Daves insanity sauce kept me hunched over in bed for 24 hours. Tastes so good.

I recommened listening to the instructions of 1-2 drops. Dont use 1/2 a bottle in one chilli con carne

What Thai shop was that? I like a hot curry, but am sick of Thai shops claiming their curries are hot, only to get them home and find they're not much better than mild, even when specifying I want 'Thai hot'. Except for a recent curry we got in Coffs Harbour, I cannot recall getting a curry that even my 6 and 4 yr old daughters couldn't eat. In fairness though, they too like hot food, and eat things most of our friends want touch.

Doesn't have to be food.

Bottle opening is too small :P

Reminds me of a mate who loves chilli, has to be on everything he eats. We were in Bali out for dinner, he got them to add extra chilli to his meal. Afterwards he went back to his room with his Mrs for a little bit of quiet time. From his account at the bar the next day, apparantly she ended up in extreme discomfort! He obviously didnt wash it off his hands/mouth enough. We had a good laugh about that one.

After hearing him tell that tale, I think I'll stay clear of it as part of the bedroom toolkit!

I bought a bottle of Blairs Jersey Death sauce from a wicked mexican place in pt douglas. Had to sign a waiver when I bought it!!
Give it to mates for shits and giggles, see the reactions and blokes trying to be tough.
I put it in stir frys and curries, you dont need much either.

Blair's Megadeath is one of the hottest that I have tried.

Dave's Insanity also has a kick.

Nice one from New Zealand is Kaitaia Fire. Some heat and smokey flavour.

We have Blair's Ultra Death sauce in our workshop, record is 7 drops on a jatz biscuit, after effects were not pretty but we got a good laugh ! Have to say though add a little bit of it to a bottle of bbq sauce and it is great !

Not sauce but chili experience.

Was in London at an Indian restuarant and loving all the food. It was quite mild and I was a little dissapointed the ffod wasn't hotter chilli waise, that was untill I got the salad and bit into a very small green chili.

30 minutes of pain,sweat,tears,yoghurt,cucumber.....no relief.

After effects were not very nice.

As for sauces Megadeath is the hottest I have tried. Few drops in the taco mince hots it up just nice.

I bought a 4 pack sampler of Blairs, the first 2 were fine. I put a bit too much after death in my pasta and nearly died. My lips went purple and swelled up. Now i'll only use a few drops in a whole pot of sauce and it still has some kick. Im too scared to even open Sudden death.

Best/worst chilli experience was hot chorizo at ChaChis in Frankston. It took half an hour to eat one, even though it went cold it still felt like it just came and the pan. And my guts were burning all the next day.

Hmmm....

I quite like the Nandos Peri-Peri as it has a good flavour. What a lot of people seem to miss, is that "chili" has a flavour as well as the "hotness". A lot of sauces and food outlets seem to think that if you want chill, you want it hot. Thats just plain wrong. I grow my own chili's at home and Dug can verify that they are "HOT". I can use 1/2 a chili in 2kg of mince beef and it's getting pretty hot when eating, a whole chili would be too hot. but they also have great flavour, not quite like capsicums, but it's close.

Overall though, my favorite sauces / marinades are home made and usually take the form of a spaghetti sauce or a marinade for a spit roast.....

I love the dumplings at Camy's Shanghai Dumplings in Tattersalls lavein Melb CBD and tried a lot of other dumplings around to town to see if there were any better.

I realised that there were some good dumplings around but what made Camy's awesome was their chilli sauce. I asked if they made it in house and the bloke brought out this Pun Chun chilli sauce in a catering size bottle that looked more like a jerry can than a bottle. i went scouring the local asian grocers for the sauce and could only find the catering size :). Score.

I'ts not a stoopid hot chilli but really savoury and works will in stir fry's or even on hot dogs.

Couldn't have said it better myself. That actually was the point of the thread - I wasn't so much interested in HOT sauce, but rather Chili Sauce.

My guts hurt remembering that. I can verify that half a chili without 2kg of mince beef is even hotter...
but they also have great flavour, not quite like capsicums, but it's close.
And that too. I do remember there being an almost sweet flavour to the chili, just before my body started to reject my internal organs.

For those that say the Nando's stuff is good, I agree there too. Good flavour, a bit of kick but without it killing the taste of what it's going onto.

Why bother with chilli sauce. By the time they finish making the sauce all the aroma is gone you realise that?

Eat the chilli fresh and get the full flavour. You can get those aromatic ones which looks like baby dicks dont know how else to describe it, at asian grocery stores. They're medium hot and light green in colour but so much flavour. Better than the red ones at woollies and coles. Those are just hot but no flavour.

Dont know about anybody else but I never learn my lesson when eating too much chilli.

After you burn the crap out of yourself and nearly having a heart attack, swear you'd never eat a chilli again in your life and then next day back to the same routine. I always wonder what component of a chilli makes it addictive.

You're talking about a bit of "Morning Afterburn"... Great sauce that one, I was hooked on it for ages too. Fairly warm but had a great taste to it, goes real well with some chicken marinated in it and bbq'd/grilled. Buy it direct from the chilli factory! The old "Turbo Supercharge" used to have a heap of kick in it too. Similar to Dave's Insanity Sauce.
