What ever happened to the one dayers starting in mid December and resuming in the new year?? The new format is crap. It was great for the kids to be able to see a game and see their heros during the school holidays but that is impossible now unless they see a test but kids aren't going to want to see that.
And today on TV they were saying that 20-20's are the new way to go...maybe if they had games in the holidays people would go!!!
Why did they change it??

Heroes don't exist in the current Aussie team anyway.
Maybe they wanted the tennis to finish so they could get more people/attention...money at a later stage?

The one dayers don't start till after the test series, whether it is a 6 match summer vs 2 opponents or an ashes summer vs england (5 tests)
The Boxing Day test is always on the 26th of December and sydney follows in the new year. This year because of the 6th test of the summer vs Pakistan in Hobart the one dayers are a bit late.

We have a first up here for the first ODI.
Every year the Brisbane ODI sells out months in advance. This year there are still tickets available.

Theres been probably 5-6 20-20 games at the G for the KFC Big Bash..
almost 50,000 people have been going to each game so they must be doing something right.

I agree with you Zapher - I think the one dayers are starting far too late nowadays - everyone is back at work and school which makes it hard to go. Combine that with the ludicrous ticket prices and far too much secuirty intervention and I completley agree the cricket administrators are idiots.
I remember as a kid going to a ODI at Sydney on New Years Day and it was fantastic. They havn't done this again though for many years.

no hero's ?
give them a go, its a new squad. And personally, I dont have a problem with sinking a few beers, watching ponting - aus's second best batsman ever, siddle and bollinger steaming in, putting 120% into every ball they bowl and the team evolve into again, a winning side.
You cant expect there to be a warne, mcgrath, cookbook hayden, or gilley in every team. Once in a lifetime players.

I couldn't believe the ticket prices at the Gabba, they have to pull their heads in, with talk about our cricketers being some of the highest paid sports men in Aust and then cricket aust complaining about poor attendances, and channel 9 putting crap on TV in the important/exciting parts of an innings or 1 dayer, tickets from $43 - $86 per adult?? or up to $150.00 per family, stupid food rules and crowd control on the mex wave, this doesnt seem like a very good option for the average punter and family wanting a VALUE for money day out.
Dont get me started on the catering company at the Gabba there food is CRAP, $9.00 for a hot dog, all you get is a bun and frank NOOOOOO sauce thats $0.50 a pkt.
So unless your rich or budget for a while to go and have a family day at the cricket... dont!! What happened to free entry for kids under 13, I went for free with my olds and thats why we went, we weren't rich and I fell in love with game... but my Mum couldn't afford it now a days and would of never gone in this day and age as I'm not paying for Lara's new Astin Martin... because remember in the end it's just F@$%ing cricket!!!! and I love my cricket...

I don't go to cricket matches anymore unless i can scam my mates members pass to the SCG. Sitting in the old members stand kicks arse over the general admission areas.

^ Well, my missus will watch 20/20 so that's a start!
Just saw this: http://www.themercury.com.au/article/2010/01/22/123491_sport-news.html
FORMER Prime Minister John Howard, is reportedly in the running to take control of cricket at the highest levels.
Rumours have emerged that the former prime minister has been nominated by the governing cricket bodies in Australia and New Zealand to take the leadership of the International Cricket Council when the job becomes vacant in 2012.
A spokeswoman for Mr Howard said he would not comment on the rumours.
Cricket Australia confirmed a candidate had been selected but would not say if it was Mr Howard. "We do have a preferred candidate," a spokesman told Fairfax.
"He is very dedicated to cricket and willing for his name to go forward."
I'm a huge fan of the 50 over one dayers, have been since the late 80's when I attended my first one as a teenager. I also love the tests, but as a family man today, I can't take up to 5 days out of my busy life, with my kids, to watch an entire test to conclusion.
This season, there is no 'circular' contest amongst the 3 teams. It's Australia versus Pakistan and Australia versus West Indies. That's it.
Maybe it's an experiment, or maybe it's the way of the future these days, with the 20-20 matches, but like the OP, I don't like it.
Whilst Kerry Packer introduced (with much controversy) the one day format in the 70's (from memory???), it has been a massive success. He must be rolling in his grave now.

It's not an experiement. The Tri-angular series was dumped as poor attendance and no interest from punters in the match that did not have the home side playing. Not $ through the gate means no money for CA coffers. Therefore, they have change it to the home side playing 5 matches against the visiting team. In this case, Pakistan first and then the West Indies. Each match features Aust and therefore bring in the gate receipts. Cricket is not just cricket anymore, it's a business. If you haven't worked it out yet, check out the IPL and see how it is run. It all revolves around the $$$ and TV rights.
