Have seen Tommy a couple of time live now. The best was about 12 years ago with his band. Most professional. The last couple of times he has come with different people and it was as good.(IMO)But he is talented that is for sure. Makes you want to learn how to play.

IMO "FAIL!"

' and now introducing Tommy Emmanuel's number 1 fan------------------------------------"TOMMY EMMANUEL"!!!

Actually, I don't mind his brother Phil, pretty laid back and doesn't "over play" everything like his brother.
Although the last time he was in our studio, the ears rang for a week as he does crank it that bit too much.
(Cooked my mates 72 Marshall super lead in the process LOL)

The one time I met the guy many many years ago after a concert in my home town, he was very friendly and quite humble. Perhaps things have changed over the years but I really couldn't care if he does love himself. This thread is about guitar skill, not personality, and Tommy has guitar skill in spades.

Fair comment, if you like his playing, enjoy! Many many others would agree with you.

For any one else that loves real guitar virtuoso's, here's some you may not be familiar with from different genres.
GOOGLE/Youtube Django Reinhardt, Brian Setzer and Paul Gilbert.

Hey Andy, bit of a J.P. fan are we?

I remember when I first heard Paul Gilbert Play this piece and I tried & tried to get my head around how he was doing it.

Then I saw some footage of him explaining it and it all made sense.

Ok I now introduce you to Mr Chet Atkins.

He is the inspiration for Tommy Emanuel, Mark Knoefler etc.

Guitar playing is all about tone and feel. Two people can hit the same note...yet sounds worlds apart... Some have it some dont.

Corny song, but try and pick a tone or feel fault in this utube.

Look closely around 1.05. Enjoy,

I guess we all have our favourites, & the person who we think is "the best".
My favourite, & the person who has been described as "the best exponent of a Fender Stratocaster in the world", is Hank Marvin, the lead guitarist of Cliff Richards' backing group "The Shadows". The likes of Mark Knoefler (spelt right?) & Eric Clapton are admirers of his, & Tommy Emmanuel is another...and has played with him on a few occasions. Hank currently lives in Perth.
I've seen the Shadows playing live a couple of times, & I'll be seeing them for the final time in a couple of weeks, when they will be in Melb, backing Cliff for their "Farewell Tour".
Some of you may be familiar with Hanks playing by way of The Shadows' most famous hit, "Apache".
Cheers, Pickles.

No mention of Keith Richards, Merl Haggert or Billy Gibbons ?? These 3 blokes are awsum . Seen a country/blues special with Richards & Haggert jamming with Kid Rock and Jerry Lee Lewis ,was awsum with Richards doing Chuck Berry chords all through it with the old dislocated hand thingy that they do.:)

No worries, Hank Marvin has many Albums/CDs of his own, as have The Shadows. A "Greatest Hits" type CD etc from either would give you an idea what he's like...but I'd probably go The Shadows because Hank would be playing lead anyway.
If you're into Home Theatre, 5.1 etc, then you should get the DVD "The Shadows Final Tour", recorded in England in 2004....simply awesome.
Cheers, Pickles.
