View Full Version : A few more records at the track tonight.
Plan B
11-06-2003, 10:51 PM
Welp, it was pretty busy again at the track tonight, (oil downs etc). All night and only a few of us managed to get 3 runs in with most guy’s only getting a chance to see the track twice. :(
On a lighter note I managed to rattle off a 11.476 @ 119.90 mph. :) (I’ll post up the time card later) It was a pretty good run but I know there is more to come. Next meet should be interesting.
Mel, 1 Surfer is down from Noosa for a Sam’s Performance tune. “On Street Tyres” he managed to get a 12.44 @ 113.40 mph. Not bad considering he was unsure of the traction so he left the line gently, then hit the rev limiter in second, because Craig hasn’t tuned the auto as yet. Mel’s ute should be one quick contender when it gets back to QLD.
ssgen3 also ran a personal best. Not sure of the exact time 11.8something with some decent MPH, he should chime in soon and confirm. :)
There were a few more of us out there, I’m not certain how you guy’s went, because it’s easy to get separated in 200 + cars.
Cheers!!

Poor bugga got out of his car, walked up to me holding his time card up and said, "Have you got NOS on that thing?"
I showed him the engine bay, told him what was done to it and all his mate kept saying.... "Told ya to get a Holden" :)

Well done to PlanB and that standard test shitter of a motor you pulled off poor Sam's dyno.
Great 346 NA time and MPH. I'm sure there's some more left in it yet given some decent runs down the strip.

They are without doubt some impressive times. A big congrats to all of you. I wish you're timeslip had the temp and humidity on it so we can see what difference that makes. Seems like the bar just keeps getting higher and higher. Well Done.
Mel, you can stay down there now, no need to come up here and do those sort of times.:bawl: Please fill us in on any other details of the runs you did. Exciting stuff.:)

You might want to note that those street tyres were Nitto NT-555 donated to PLAN B to test. You have to get those on your ute next time and do some 11's with them Peter
Congrats on the time by the way

the air thing is getting damn boring from you Queenslanders:rolleyes: Winter Nationals saw some of the best air I have ever raced at- corrected altitude was NEGATIVE 1000' and humidity in the 4x%!!!
Good lap Pete......would of thought with all the power you picked up on the dyno (368rwhp-425rwhp) the mph would of come up more than it did but there you go.
346" with 222 cam...118x mph
346" with 24x cam...119x mph.
382" with 23x cam...223x mph.
Interesting.;)

I didn't make the comment about the weather as a suggestion that it was the reason for the times etc. I am just personally really interested in different track conditions around the country with regard to the weather. It's something I like to look at on timeslips to get a feel for how it affects things.

Yeah that was funny. I'm sure glad we have rev limiters.
BLOWN, you can call me Granny Shifter from now on. :)
The power is there and for the few guy's who have driven my car, I'm sure they will confirm that it is from the basement. Judging by Kim's and Al's MPH I realise and uderstand why there is more to be had. B4 the pointing finger comes out, we should perhaps wait and see what happends with further track tests. I only really got 2 straight runs in last night. However, I'm very happy with the result so far.

The owner of Heathcote, (Russell) just spent $40,000+ on the timing equipment. It's calibrated. ANDRA held a meeting there last month and Heathcote Park Raceway is currently in negotiations with ANDRA for sanctioning deal.

That is a good question and one which should deserve a decent answer. :)
Following some recent private messages/emails and some questions at the track, I’ll explain where it is at currently.
I did get that 422 engine together “once upon a time” and ran it up on the chassis dyno. It only made 24 rwhp and a bit more torque over this engine. Frankly it wasn’t good enough in my mind for the investment. It only ran 115 mph at the track, So I ripped it out of my car and pulled it down.
I could go into all the little details as to what and why it didn’t work, but I won’t because it was only my money and time. Time and money quickly gets wasted with the wrong advice. :(
I’ll get it back together again real soon. However, I’m still having fun with the 346 stuff. (cheap and easy) :D
New heads and cam have arrived for the 422. Is it gunna be good? I'll keep you posted!
Cheers, big ears.

I have just arrived back in Qld & want to extend my thanks to Pete, Craig,& Sam, Tom & Matt at Sams Performance for treating me so well while in Sydney. Let alone the fantastic things Sam can do with Edit. My engine is running so sweat without the maf and Craig sorted the shifts out beautifully.
I have had the opportunity to experience some bloody nice cars in the last 3 months ranging from the new AMG55SL, 360 Modena & the factory GT2 Turbo Porcshe and none are as awesome as Petes ute. Sounds crazy but that thing pulls harder than the $450,000 GT2 with $10,000 extractors ( the cost of petes whole H/C package. From 1000rpm on it pulls hard all the way to redline ,it is quieter with a better ride.I know you will say the others go around corners, if thats what you want thats great . I would sooner do the Qld to Sydney return in Petes ute than the noisy hard riding GT2. Certainly a smooth well balanced package that I will venture into when I get a larger stally later in the year.

Something i just thought of, you & Sams heads&cam 346 is now making as much power as the best from the yanks H&C, assuming your cam is still a hydraulic roller. Raughammer had the stock short, 346 H&C record at 123 mph in a 3100 lb car. If you work out the weight difference, your ute and his car are making around the same HP.

While in Sydney I went to EC with Plan B & had the opportunity to run on the track. It certainly didnt feel as well prepped as Willowbank & it felt like I was climbing uphill at the half way mark.
I waited patiently for the cold air to come in around 8pm as it does on a good night at Willowbank but it failed to occur, so we spent all night in light jumpers with not ideal conditions for optimum engine power & Plan B still pulled a top time. The future looks good for even better times.
