Hey guys,

Currently shopping around for a new trolley jack my old one is a cheapy, seals probably gone and unuseable. Need one to be able to lift up a lowered vx - so I guess lower than 100mm though I guess can get away with something bigger with a couple blocks under the tyres as well.
Have seen a lot of references to "Armstrong", "Snap-on" and Kincrome from searching so I already know these are decent just a bit pricey though I have a feeling it would be money well spent.
Have come accross the following links from google:

http://www.jackspecialists.com.au/garageCar.html
https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Floor-Jack
http://www.autotools.com.au/catalogue/product.php/10/445/2569

Anyone got any opinions or feedback? just thought I'd have a look at what's out there before forking out for the "bigger brand" stuff.

Cheers,

Gav

your right, snap-on and kincrome will be $$$ but you wont be unhappy. kincrome should probably be a bit cheaper than snap on gear but i think it also has lifetime warranty...?

Also check out Repco, Total Tools and that calibre of retailer. Never skimp out on the jack as it's you who will come to grief if it fails.

Also consider one of the lightweight alloy ones if you intend carting it around. I have one of these also, but my trust is always in the 'heavy mother' 2.5 tonne jobbie

Hey Mate,

Myself and my mates have all bought the Blue Point (Snap on's other brand) low profile, long reach jacks. Goes under 99% of lowered cars and takes them right up. The retail is something like 650, but after wheeling and dealing with our snap on guys we got them below 500.
Ausom jack.

You can't go wrong with anything from Jack Specialists.
I bought a reco commercial grade trolley jack from them over 20yrs ago, & recently had it reco'd, by them, when a seal went (probably from lack of use!).
They don't sell any rubbish, so anything you buy from them would be good.

After years of buying cheapies...and worrying...
I bought my last two 'named' jacks from my local Alltools/Total Tools...a small Armstrong jobbie (from low up to about 460mm lift) rated at about 2000kgs and a larger one - Total Tools own brand (normal up to about 520mm lift) rated at 2200kg. I also have a bigger 2500 Armstrong I bought years ago (like used in Tyre shops and garages) ...a big bugger

buy the best you can afford

im in the market for a jack aswell, but i want a super low, long reach and super high, and the only just i have seen, is the bluepoint one, and holy crap thats an awesome jack, $500 is alot of money and the thing only does 1 tonne, but im sure it'll be worth it, and worth looking into changing the arm around

I have one of these also, had it for a couple of years now and haggled my tool bloke down to 500 flat. From memory is about 85mm high so will get under very low cars. Better wuality than others around and worth the dollars for something that will last you for life, and like any other snap on product has a lifetime warranty.

might be a different one then, because bluepoint has a super long reach, low profile jack, rated at 1 ton only. its something like 73mm or similar i believe. i could be wrong tho, as i the website doesnt have any details on it

Hey guys thanks to everyone who's posted so far.

Just came accross this kincrome one. price isn't bad either.

anyone know if this would be able to reach the crossmember easily ? or would you still need something under the tyres with this one?

cheers,

Gav

Also have a look at the CGL ones, they make a decent low profile jack that are as good in quality as Kincrome IMO. Get something that only takes 1 pump to come up to height (ie before it takes the load), well worth it!

I bought one of these: Kincrome Aluminium Racing Jack (http://www.kincrome.com.au/web/catalogue/search/product_display.php?partnumber=K12063)

Have used it about 5 times and have had nothing but problems. I have sent it back once to be fixed and am currently in the process of getting it replaced completely. It can't even jack the tray of my ute up. Yes I know it only has a safe working load of 1000kg but I'm positive jacking under the diff of a VZ ute isn't exceeding that load. It looks fantastic, feels solid and is great for track days because it weighs bugger all but it just doesn't perform. Also out of 650mm of stroke it pumps for the last 200mm before touching the floor.

I hope I just got a dud and the replacement will work well but for the price it has been very average.

Cheers,
Tim

I've had one of these for aaages, never had an issue. Rember with a trolley jack it's good practise to get them serviced or at least load tested every once in a while - you can't put a price on safety. Using stands goes without saying.

That jack has some issues getting under SEVERELY low cars, but I've never had that problem with the VN on superlows, only time I come unstuck is when I drop the rear down and forget the jack doesn't fit under the long range fuel tank... crunch :(

Other than that, make sure you keep all moving parts lubed up nicely, and keep it clean if practical. I used to service jacks and hoists for a living, and you'd be surprised how many die of wheels falling off or seizing up, improperly greased pins wearing down, etc etc.

Gav,

How did that Kingcrome low profile jack go?
I'm looking at one for my VZ Clubsport which I am having trouble getting my smaller jack under.

I had my Kincrome Al. Racing Jack replaced with their 3.5T low profile version. The weight of it is ridiculous however it is very solid. Also I am 6'1" and the handle stands as tall as me (3 piece handle)

It will not fit under the sump guard on my ute. However I can fit it under the sides to jack from the stock points. It will also fit under my diff.
