Hey fellas,
Just looking to see if anyone knows of some more effective ways to reduce the weight of my ute for track days. Spare is out plus jack and tools. Factory seat is replaced with a race seat (also makes the car so much easier to control). I am looking into some OZ racing wheels but waiting out to weigh my stock 17's to see if its going to be a world of difference. I know losing weight on the wheels will do more for braking, acceleration and turn in. Also trying to find lightweight panels (aluminium or CF) but need to find something that is ADR approved as my ute is post 1995? Stripping the interior is an option but there really isn't to much to strip other than passenger seat and carpet. Air con and stereo can't really go either as its still a daily driver.
Maybe i should just buy a track only car lol
Anyway i'm all ears

Coilovers.
DBA 5000 series rotors.
Simpler cat back design/material.
Smaller battery, maybe a optima red top. Save a couple of kg up high in the front of the front of the car.
remove sound deadening under the carpet with dry ice, then put the carpet back in.
Electric motors from mirrors?

be careful what you take out being that it is a ute it is an inhertily unstable car to begin with due to the lack of weight over the back wheels.
What would serve you better is weight placement. yes try to replace the overall weight of the ute but where possible try and move weight to the rear of the car to help balance it out.
(my comments are based on the assumption you were doing circuit work when you said track days not drag strip :) )

Coilovers.
In the process of sorting some Teins so that's a plus!
DBA 5000 series rotors.
Already sorted on that front 2+
Simpler cat back design/material.
Going to a single exhaust would be less material so obviously lighter. Also I guess cast iron headers are pretty heavy too. Maybe get some ceramic coated stainless steel headers?
Smaller battery, maybe a optima red top. Save a couple of kg up high in the front of the front of the car.
Was looking at batery re-location to the boot
remove sound deadening under the carpet with dry ice, then put the carpet back in.
How loud is it in the cabin once its removed? Will it be bare able for day to day use?
Electric motors from mirrors?
Then just hand adjust the mirrors from now on?

Yeah track work indeed. Other than the battery what else can be relocated? It is very unstable due to the lack of weight over the rear!

that there is the million dollar question I give the ideas not the nuts and bolts:rofl:
apart from battery I really cant think of much.
I know this goes againts all trains of thinking but increasing weight may serve you better (increase rear weight but look towards the front to decrease weight).
depending on the ciruit ie lots of stop start slow corners more weight-what you lose in acceleration in a straight line you will gain through cornering and acelration off the corner.

seeing as you are in sydney I am assuming you would be using eastern creek.
this is one track I havent had the opportunity to race on, but a more stable car should allow you to carry more speed through turn 1, you shouldnt even lose much acceleration down the front straight as you should be able to get off the final corner better also because it is a double apex corner.

If you're getting serious, how much do you weigh and what can you do about that? No need to post back a number, just another opportunity.
Also, are you mindful of how much fuel you have in the tank and how much you actually need for a session? By running your tank low though, you can starve for fuel on high cornering load so a fuel system might be required and I'm not sure how that would balance out the weight requirements.

Buy a top spec go kart then use the ute to take it to the track.
Awesome open wheeler driving fun - when your backside is less than an inch off the ground 160Km/h feels faaaarghn fast....
